It really was Lightning in a bottle

How did Cary Nagasaki go from making this, to making shittiest James Bond movie?
>>
>>217236690
Money. He made pure kino and then he started cashing in the big bucks. Waste of talent if you ask me but money is what people worship. Anyways he couldn't replicate this even if he tried, the two main leads, fukunaga, everything was perfection. Once in a lifetime series.

s2 mogs it
>>

Season 4 was by far the dumbest shit I ever watched. Only watched it because I had a flight to Europe. Regret it mightily.

>mogs
you weren't old enough to have watched s1 when it aired i bet, go back to tiktok.

S1 is the absolute peak of television for me

Cashing in gives you a lot of freedom in the long term.

Pizzolatto putting an asshole alcoholic misogynistic asian director in season 2 was the picture of subtlety

Anyone who thinks this show is good has an IQ 10-20 points lower than they think they do.

"Time is a flat circle" has exposed more pseud midwits than any other line in the history of television. Anyone else took 2 seconds to realize that it means absolutely nothing - for starters, circles are already flat or they'd be spheres, you flatten it anymore and you get a line. Is he saying time is a line? So basically restating the most basic fucking concept of time.

Even a movie like Donnie Darko is more intelligent than True Detective, as it does a reasonable job of visualizing the b-theory of time. What's that True Detective fans, you don't know what that is? No shit, you stupid fuck.

>lightning in a bottle
He had like 10 years or something to write it. The writing wasn't lighting in a bottle. It just wasn't hack shit. He wrote it for himself.
Fukunaga being talented in his own right, recruiting the DP, and recruiting the production designer is a lot of why S1 works on the screen. Nic immediately having the audacity to not just axe Fukunaga and his DP, but to replace them with a revolving door of journeymen (so no single vision for S2) was really the height of fucking arrogance.

I don't know if I'd call it arrogance but Nic also just seems the type to not be able to execute on writing when he can't take his sweet time.

from the crusty mason....

it's not actually that good there's just some edgy rust cohle scenes that makes moids think it's a masterpiece. I don't even remember anything that happened in this nor did I care at all about the serial killer (or was it a rapist?) plot. all I remember is that woody harrelson cheated on his wife and matthew mcconaughey said that life is a dream.
>>
>foid psychopath can't empathize with a show that's all about its male leads as characters
Makes sense.
>>
>>217237937
The point is that Rust is an edgelord to cover up his pain. He relents at the end. This is a show about the characters, not the philosophy they espouse
>>
>>217238288
He also exaggerates his edginess to the nth degree to the detectives to portray himself as miserable and apathetic. He's trying to sell that he's just a checked out sadsack and therefore not involved in the old case anymore, but we know that's not really true.

isnt season 1 plagarized?
>>
It was a one trick pony that just unpacked a weird underground philosophy that most film and tv watchers had never heard of(antinatalism) as an edgy TV show.

Still a goat show.

>You know, a drug addicted meth cooking pedophile rapist who my partner shot execution style once told me that "time is a flat circle"
>>
>>217238425
That's what I heard but I can't remember where. I'm pretty sure Carrie Hiroshima was accused of stealing the story from a book or movie.
>>
This was good yeah, I really like how they made the viewer actually wonder if the supernatural shit was real, good character writing and you kind of care about the philosophical themes.

It's really strange with the subsequent seasons how in the modern day someone can simply take the name of something and use it to peddle shit that has nothing to do with the original. Same thing happened to the whole internet I think.
>>
>>217238051
i enjoyed it, seeing the two mains grow and have an itch they cant let go of was pretty compelling to me. the whole 'we need to finish what was started' resonated and was satisfying even if they didnt get the whole ring of higher ups
>>
>>217236636
Season 3 topped it by casting Sarah Gadon
>>
>>217237937
I thought he was talking about perspective. If you were an ant, looking at a rubber band from the side, you'd see a line. But with an eagle eye view, you could see the rubber band was in fact a circle.

In terms of time he's saying everyone sees it as a straight line but really everything repeats. The future includes the past. I always thought he was wrong. And the point was that he grew out of this point of view.

He was at that point just being a nihilist. He lost hope. What he saw at that crime scene. How it reminded him of his past trauma with his daughter. That disgusting evil man said something haunting. Not necessarily smart.
>everything repeats
>what I did
>the suffering I caused
>those kids will suffer for ever and ever
>and you can't stop the reality of this
>and I'm at peace with this because I'm an occult druggy

Rust remembered that line, not because it was scientifically correct, but because it captured his imagination. In a bad way.

They lifted Season 1 from Thomas Ligotti and Alan Moore.
