It was just all based off what he thought the connection should be, he knew he had a son that he should love and basically nothing else, everything built from that is actually from his Na'vi experiences. He even sees that it's not such a bad thing that Jake raised him because he is proud of the result. His human memories simultaneously drive him and hold him back.I could spend all day trying to figure out Quaritch it's straight up an incredible character and performance.

It's really poetic the second movie ended like this.
