Though the material is obviously inherently unrealistic, Del Toro knew they needed to move slowly to seem heavy and feel like they could be real giant machines, because he’s actually good at his job. None of that here. Shame he didn’t get to do his sequel given that he had story plans, but it’s not the first time that’s happened to him
