It was wildly popular when it was airing, died down a little bit near the end but TBS still aired it everyday in the early evening then when they stopped playing it it faded from the public consciousness pretty quickly. I think not having a DVD release and no else playing it in syndication for years contributed a lot to that. For a long time the best way to watch the entire series was a torrent of TV rips of mostly terrible quality.

Drew is fat guy living out a fantasy of owning his parents house and browbeating the pretty girl in school who didn't notice him then but now that life has kicked her around, if he just keeps her down she'll stay with him forever. Even his moral victories are moments he should stand up for himself or do the ACTUAL right thing instead of the self sacrifice that cues the audience awww.
