Just watched War of the Worlds (2005). What a fucking masterpiece, HOW WAS THIS MADE 20 YEARS AGO? The special effects blow current CGI out of the water. And the ending is the smartest thing ever Jesus fucking christ, if this was a new movie airing on theaters I'd have cheered and clapped when the bazooka hit that thing
Gee I wonder how
>>217284510ikr same here rented the movie at blockbuster just because the cover look cool and the name was epic. Blew my zoomer mind away. Ending is a little shit but the action was good.
>>217284510>babbies first pre-2020s scifi flickcalm down zoomie
>>217284617Give me 3 thousand examples of good sci fi you gorilla nigger.
>>217284611Maybe anticlimactic, a but like The Mist, but the explanation makes sense. It's something that could happen in real life, FUCK YEAH, HUMANITY
>aliens spend a full million years planning the invasion of earth>don't bother to get vaccinated against earth diseases
>>217284510>Martians buried fighting machines underground millions of years ago in case intelligent life evolved on Earth so they could ride lightning bolts into the cockpits and fight them
>>217284636Just don’t think about it more because it ruins the movie. Aliens never invent soap? Why did they invade earf naked? If the tripods were on earth the entire time wouldn’t they already have antibodies from earths pathogens?
>>217284617Not my first, it's legitimately great, there's other good sci-fi films but this one manages to look real while keeping such a big apocalyptic scale on broad daylight. Eat your heart out, Avatar. I did watch it on a pirate CD recorded from theaters when I was 9 but I could barely see shit and didn't remember anything besides the monsters.
>>217284510>HOW WAS THIS MADE 20 YEARS AGO?It was made 129 years ago, and it made a lot more fucking sense.
>>217284653>>217284675Bad guy hubris
>>217284617He's not wrong. Modern movies are such trash when compared to early 2000s. It really is amazing how the tools have advanced so much but the people making stuff have become exceedingly worse.
>>217284675You don't know that. Maybe they just planted seeds all over the universe to take over in case of a homeland emergency, their planet could have been going full Krypton.
>>217284675>>217284653Why didn't they just invade when homo-erectus was lounging about?
>>217284653The aliens were republican. That would be us colonizing another planet.
>>217284791Who says they didn’t? Maybe they got btfo and that’s why they were buried
>>217284791That's just the writer not spoonfeeding you, we don't need lore or a flashback for the aliens, we don't know why but they needed to invade now. Such is the passage of time.
>>217284791They were waiting for the human population to grow and spread across the planet, so they can harvest people.
>>217284874Go back to reading crossed nigger.
>https://store.steampowered.com/app/1898920/War_of_the_Worlds/Thoughts on the upcoming WOTW steam game?
>>217284874She gets better mid movie, she actually learns to shut the fuck up. I was ready to hate on her if she screamed when the aliens were checking down the basement but she wasn't an obstacle anymore. The son is a sperg but so is half of this website, and honestly just like in The Mist, I would understand thinking this is the end of the world and choosing to die on your own terms, in what looked like the biblical final stand of humanity blazing all guns against the marching army of aliens. He just wanted to be witness of it. And the movie got me good, when Tom Cruise went outside of the house and all the city was a lake of blood I thought this was a doomer film with no possible good ending.
>>217284982looks interesting
>>217284510where can I stream this at 1440p
>>217284510I remember seeing it in theaters and being shaken/shook to my core by the fucking train.
>>217284510War of the Worlds is a trash movie
>>217284510Vaxxers vs Anti-vaxxers: The Movie
>>217285248It predicted covid
Actually the special effects aged pretty bad, all the practical effects and explosions looks amazing though
>>217285311wtf u talking about movie looks like they made it yesterday.
>>217284510I saw this in theaters and it was otherworldly. It felt like you and the audience were witnessing the last stand of humanity together. Signs was even crazier. People were flipping the fuck out. I doubt any movie experience would be similar nowadays.
>>217285570Can we please get another space invasion kino like this? But the filming techniques just aren't the same anymore. I doubt it would be as good.
>>217284510i dont mind the movie, but the part where the son just runs, unarmed, into a battle between a tripod and a bunch of soldiers was so fucking stupid that it lowered my opinion of the whole thing
>>217285827Correct there. But more importantly was Dakota Fanning being annoying and loud as FUCK all throughout the movie. Yes both of his kids were bring dicks, but she definitely should've been used as a sacrifice to escape.
>>217285311What special effects are you talking about? Off the top, maybe the effects around people getting vaporized. Everything else is still 10/10. Like the bridge scene.
>>217284510>The special effects blow current CGI out of the waterIt's insane how bad things have become. From Davy Jones' tentacle face to whatever the fuck slop they shit out for the half dozen MCU productions/year
>>217285827>where the son just runs, unarmed, into a battleI think what Spielberg was aiming for there was acaricature of the average American's urge to see the fight taken to "the enemy". The movie was released only 4 years after 9/11. When Cruise and the kids are escaping the initial attack in their car and the son is asking what happened, he asks "is it the terrorists?" Then the first house they take refuge in is totaled by a downed airplane and the son is transfixed by the sight. So when he sees the Jeeps and choppers and tanks charging over the hill, he wants to see America beat the shit out of the enemy firsthand. He wants to see mankind get back at the aliens and win. He represents the fury and grief and adrenaline people felt after the Twin Towers, or at least that's what Spielberg intended, but contextually the scene felt very awkward
>>217286223First thing that came to my mind. Can’t believe people are this retarded to not get the easiest shit ever
>>217284686Aliens have a magical ability to combat microscopic life they've never encountered?
>>217286223Yeah he literally tells us he's not fighting, he just says>I want to be thereAs his dramatic farewell. It's just something important for him, more so than survival. But he's not deluded charging and screaming into battle thinking he'll do something like worse movies would do
>>217285143Pluto tv, its a free app
>>217284510no, the only part that is masterful is the beginning until he gets back to the house full of ash. i stop watching after that because it is complete garbage afterwards. that build-up is super-duper, though.
I like the noise the tripods make
>>217284510This movie is dogshit, the 53 film is ten times better.
>>217284510UUUUULAAAHH >>>> HOONNKK
>>217285827yeah legitemaly stupid retard son
war of the servers was better
>>217284653The Martians had long defeated their own bacteria and viruses, so they thought they were immune to anything on Earth. The best versions of WotW are the Orsin Welles radio play and Jeff Wayne's musical.Spielberg's version, removes alot of the subtext about imperialism and colonialism, so it's an example of the woke right's influence.
Felt way too forced, Dakota talked like an adult, Tom was decent, the son was so boring. Overall, it was a good story. With big name actors, it could have worked better.
>>217284510Really could have done with a 'Thunderchild' scene.
>>217284510it's still the most terrifying alien invasion kino to this day.
>>217284510It's the 2nd best live action adaptation of WOTW and still half-baked. Strays too far from the source material and falls apart in the third act. Turns the soldier who wants to rebuild civilisation underground into an /x/ schizo as expected of a jewish director.Phenomenal effects though.
>>217284791They used blood to power their machines.
>>217284510Saw it in the cinema in 2005 and its still one of my favorite movies
5'6 Tom Cruise killing 6'4 Tim Robbins was more unbelievable than Aliens attacking earth
>>217284510>extremely advanced alien civilization>WOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWW bacteria really? How we were supposed to figure that out???!!!
>>217288578Kino
>>217284510My dad bought the DVD as soon as it was available and it unironically scared the fuck out of me. The people just evaporating, especially that closeup of that woman's face right as she gets dusted fucked me up By the time that fuel truck explodes I started crying and left the living room.
this movie gave me nightmares just like bigfoot
>>217284982Good idea for a game. Hopefully it's good but I wouldn't be buying it day 1.
