By the end of Season 6 they bring in enough new writers that no one really knows whats going on anymore and thwy start doing really stupid stuff and write the former main character out completely. It all feels like it was still maybe building towards something but then they find out their getting cancelled and kind ofnhust drop anu semblance of plot and spin their wheels into the finale with a last minute happening that sort of works but isn't really in the spirit of the show and is birderline unrecognizable to the first episode.
