I'm finally watching game of thrones after avoiding it for many yearsThe dialogue in this show is fan fiction tier, actually worse because it's what you'd come up with if you had no interest in what you were writing at all, like someone forced at gunpoint to write shitty fanfic for someone else (weird scenario). Sterile, stilted, uncreative, clunky, literally painful to listen toMy question is, are the books this bad? If not, why did they change it for TV? Or if so, why was this DOGSHIT so popular?
>>217316905All the best lines in the show come straight from the books. Once it gets past the books, the dialogue is worse than most teen dramas. It’s truly horrendous to listen to by the time you get to the final seasons.
>>217316905yeah, Martin's prose is kinda dogshit
why are you watching if you hate it so much doe
>>217316905Books I-III are very enjoyable fantasy. Books IV is mediocre.Book V is downright bad.The world also suffers from very shaky foundations like careless agriculture, metallurgy, geography etc. None of these make any sense, which was fine when the story was enjoyable and it could be waved away with magic or sci-fi reasons, but since it's unlikely to ever be explained, it is just silly.
>>217316905it gets like that around season 5, before that the main issue with the dialogue is the modern slang being inserted.
>>217317049>meet a new character>he's either>craven>bastard>craven bastard
>>217316905>The dialogue in this show is fan fiction tierAnd you're still watching it
>>217316905>like someone forced at gunpoint to write shitty fanfic for someone else (weird scenario)Misery is a classic
>>217317572Apparently craven means cowardly? Is that what you thought it meant? I thought it was more like dastardly in a greedy way.
>>217316905>are the books this badI dropped it somewhere in book 2, too many Dany chapters, she was fucking awful. And it was really unclear how much time was passing
