He's right you know

This is why the miniseries is the perfect format. You get 6-10 episodes to say what you want to say, no bullshit filler or bottleneck episodes.
>>

4-6 is the sweet spot. Never seen a 10 parter with at least 3 episodes of fluff, usuallmore like 5.
Even a series based on a novel can be pulled off in 6.

We need to go back to episodic storytelling.
>>
>Joel Cohen
The endings of his movies are notoriously shitty though.
>>
>>217329927
The problem is the streamung site decide how many episodes they want based on a treatment, and the writers have to fluff it out to meet that requirement.

He's right though.

He's not wrong. 90% of the tv shows on streaming services would have been 1 hr 45 min movies that would have been successful in theaters.
>>
About 15 years ago producers discovered you could make a soap opera out of anything, you didn’t need to gear them solely toward suburban stay-at-home moms and retirees. And that’s all we have now, soap operas where you remember a handful of high points and forget 90% of the filler.

That show should have ended after the first season.

False.

Based and correct. This is why I don't watch tv dramas. Comedy only. You get a laugh and move on. With a movie, two hours and the story is over. Don't have to wait years for shit to end.
>OMGGG what's gonna happen to Walter and Don Draper? Better dedicate years of my life to find out!
Cringe

the original Star Trek show will always be the benchmark of television
Twilight Zone was also good.

name a single bad ending he gave us
>>
Yup.
So many episodes of a 10+ episodes season is just treading water. Nothing really happens. Things appear to happen, characters are reacting like important stuff is happening, but it ends up being nothing in the end.
>"We need to get that suitcase, that we've never mentioned before, or everything is lost. Phew, after 45 minutes we finally got it. Now, let's never mention it again and let's now just mention the overall arch briefly."
Alien Earth was a good example of this. Every episode wanted to create tension and suspense but looking back on the whole season nothing happened at all.

>world of reel font
>Can't find a single reliable source of Joel Coen actually fucking saying this
Jesus fucking H Christ, will this shit ever end?
>>

The best television I've ever seen in 36 years to this day was True Detective season 1 and it had 8 episodes. Ever since that, I thought it was the perfect amount.
>>
>>217330703
True Detective absolutely shits the bed after the first half though. By the end it's devolved into action schlock.
>>
>>217330703
Its good but there is still fluff there. Just better quality fluff. Like the projects episode. Technically filler as regards the greater storyline, but kino all the same.
>>
>>217329947
You got filtered by A Serious Man, didn't you?
>>
Isn't it weird that you'll watch 10 hours of a show (10 episodes of 1 hour each) and feel like nothing happened, but then you'll watch a 2 hour film where you feel like you went on an adventure to the moon and back.

TV shows do not understand editing.
>>
>>217330055
This was always garbage, get better taste
>>
>>217329793
This guy fucks Frances McDormand
>>
>>217330096
Soap operas do >200 episodes per year. 8 episodes every other year is not acceptable.
