Firstly, Omar Sharif is a FAR better actor than Fred MacMurray who can convey emotions other than nervousness, like puppy dog sweetness and naivete that enhance his character and make him more plausible. I hate Secondly, Laila Fawzi is FAR more sultry and seductive than Stanwyck, who actually had to physically seduce MacMurray to get him on her side-Sharif on the other hand is obviously instantly smitten with Fawzi. The rest of the film is inferior-it looks worse, outside of some interesting pickup shots of hospital equipment, there's an unintentionally hilarious ending and everything cuts to black before there's any necking. Still, with two superior leads (Fawzi in particular looks fantastic in this) it's definitely a lot better than the original, as that's what Double Indemnity is-the relationship between the two leads.
