I just saw the recent stage version they put out. In that one his brother is in a gay interracial relationship with a drag queen, and at the end gives a big speech about how all families are different, some have two mommies, some two daddies etc. Whereas in the 90s version he says 'some families have adopted kids, some are foster families, etc'
Otherwise this movie was still pretty woke and subversive for its time and its message was basically 'ditch your annoying gay husband divorce is ok' in addition to other stuff along those lines.
