His movies are overrated dogshit. They are aesthetics over substance. The entire logic of them relies on emotional pseudo-philosophy relating to fleeting feelings of nostalgia and false recollective memories of an idealized time and space. His plots are meandering, episodic, with narratives that end up feeling incomplete, arbitrary, and unresolved. His characterization is absolute DOGSHIT, with more shallow characterization in animations like Princess Mononoke than in fucking Pocahontas. Characters like Nausicaä or Ashitaka (Princess Mononoke) are morally flawless from the outset and remain largely unchanged, functioning more as narrative stand-ins for ideals than characters with inner conflict or depth. Howl’s Moving Castle collapses under its own visual ambition, with logic and plot coherence sacrificed in service of atmosphere. He infantilizes morality even worse and to a bottom rung degree than even Brothers Grim stories. In Princess Mononoke, Lady Eboshi commits acts of violence and environmental destruction, yet she is portrayed with compassion. However, her "redemption" at the end comes quickly and without true consequence. She “decides to do better,” but the suffering she’s caused is glossed over. He removes the burden of guilt from morally culpable characters (likely as a subconscious rejection of Imperial Japan's past heinous war crimes) and flattens out any sort of ethical depth in his films with the wave of his pen from one animated panel to the next. His movies repeat these gestures ad nauseum and I'm sick and tired of hearing how amazing his films are. For a child, they are terrifying, wonderous, and beautiful, but for anyone over the age of 7, they are rambling and clumsy attempts at inserting weight and maturity into storylines, without the weight and maturity of resolving them properly that other children's films seem to do so with ease.FUCK this retarded hack. Go back to being an inbetween animator, you fucking retard. HAWK-TUAH.
