Kevin is from Chicago. Why did he act like a ruralite who has never seen a skyscraper when he got to New York?
>>
so some faggot 30 years later would ask that very question
>>
do urbanites really just fly out to a different metropolitan city for vacation?
>>
>>217355888

He's from a suburb (pic related). Maybe his parents or his school took him to the Sears Tower once, maybe not. In general, especially for the time period, it was common for people in the suburbs to have very little direct interaction with the inner city unless they had a corporate job in a highrise. For children, they might go to a museum or sporting event, but most never did.
>>
>>217355906
The filmmakers were truly ahead of their time.
>>
>>217355956
why do leftists hate this so much and think it's evil and immoral?
I legit don't get it.
>>
>>217355936
He was 15 minutes away from huge skyscrapers his entire life. I grew up 20 minutes from Washington DC and I had to see every monument, museum etc a million times before I was his age
>>
>>217356288
I just think the infrastructure sucks. You have to drive everywhere and often suburbs aren’t economically productive if it’s just a bunch of housing with a few businesses sprinkled about.
>>
>>217356288
not enough diversity/crime
>>
>>217355906
This. Plan worked perfectly.
>>
>>217356288
For 90% it's just sour grapes. For the rest they hate what it represents (white middle America)
>>
>>217356392
>You have to drive everywhere
So what? Driving is fun and convenient. I love being able to load my car with a bunch of shit and go wherever I want in comfort and privacy.
>suburbs aren’t economically productive
They don't need to be. It's housing. It's consumption.
>>
>>217356392
The isolation is by design. Most crimes, especially property crimes, are crimes of opportunity. The line of thinking behind suburbs is that if you don't live there, you don't have any business being there.
>>
>>217356341
for one, we don't know exactly where he is in suburban chicago. filming location != setting location. next, not everyone is like you. it's not impossible to believe that he has maybe only been to the city a handful of times, many where he can't remember.
>>
>>217356436
He's in Winnetka
>>
>>217356580
yeah but that's where the real life house is. the setting could be in a fictional town anywhere between 5 minutes and an hour from downtown.
>>
>>217355906
that's pretty impressive for them to plant that into the film for so long
>>
>>217356424
Driving isn’t fun when you’re stuck in stop and go traffic with a bunch of SUVs.
>>
>>217357294
walking isn't fun when you're stuck behind people moving slowly or there is a group of people blocking your path
>>
>>217355888
New York is an extremely popular tourist destination.
There’s sky scraper and then there’s NEW YORK skyscraper which are some of the biggest in the country. At the time many were spectacles just for existing.
>>
>>217356288
These specifically are completely fine and the "infrastructure" is not bad at all like that other anon preports. In a suburban district like this, there are shopping centers, grocery stores, etc. All over the place. You're never more than 10m away by car from everything you realistically need to live your daily life. It's not walkable because it doesn't need to be. The point of it is to have the space to be able to move around. To have a big yard. To have areas that are dedicated woodlands. I live in a gay and shithole part of the chicagoland. It's like inbetween the suburbs and the city, so I have all of the downsides of both and none of the positives. When visiting these actual suburbs, you find that it's like 50% trees over there. There's a forest preserve every couple miles. These kinds of suburbs are great and I want to move there. However one thing you notice is that in this pic specifically all of the houses look different. There's variety because they were individually built by the owners. Newer suburbia districts are made by conglomerates that make dozens or hundreds of houses that all look the same and are cheaply built. THESE are the shitty suburbs people talk about that have poor infrastructure because theyre built first on flatlands with nothing around them and they expect the inbetween to fill in with commerical over the next 20 years or whatever. These types also rarely have nature beyond lawns and a tree here or there. But old suburbs are great and full of sovl
>>
Going on a school trip to downtown Chicago to visit a museum or something is different than wandering alone through Central Park as a kid.
>>
>>217355925
Sometimes you gotta see the conditions city folk live in to make you appreciate the blessings of your own life more. (Suburbs are for Whites)

I'm conservative and I hate suburbs. the idea that there is nothing but houses for miles in every direction makes me feel claustrophobic. there's nowhere to run and you'll instantly get traffic jammed on all sides during a real emergency. Every square foot of the entire place is being watched 24/7 by Ring cameras so you're never out of Amazon's sight.

Frankly, suburbs seem like corporate crop fields. Just a whole lot of people endlessly buying shit and getting it delivered by brown trucks.
>>
>>217356288
Like cars, they represent freedom, which is antithetical to leftist beliefs.

Maybe you just have a mental disorder. Ever think of that?
Also it's never ALL houses for miles. What a retarded fucking thing to say. I'm surrounded by shops and parks.
>you'll instantly get traffic jammed on all sides during a real emergency
Rarely happens.
>Every square foot of the entire place is being watched 24/7 by Ring cameras so you're never out of Amazon's sight.
What? In cities you're more likely to be caught on the endless CCTVs everywhere.
You think your pic is any better?
>>
>>217358269
>Rarely happens.
oh, emergencies rarely happen? that's great news, I guess we don't need to prepare for them

>What? In cities you're more likely to be caught on the endless CCTVs everywhere.
I don't live in the city, I own a home in the woods on the outskirts of a town.

>Also it's never ALL houses for miles. What a retarded fucking thing to say. I'm surrounded by shops and parks.

>>

you know what they DON'T have though? places to get laid. Suburbs are actually hell for everyone too old to be in school and too young to be married with kids.
>>
>>217358421
lifelong rent cucks can leave and move whenever they want. Mortgages are an obligation to remain in one place until the contract is closed. There is nothing about a mortgage which makes a person free. Having a nuclear family doesn't make you free, either. All those things obligate you to others.

>>217358438
>meds now
I simply look down on you in the same way that you look down on urbanites.
>the urban rent producer
>the suburban Amazon consumer

He’s right, I grew up in suburb 15 miles south of Chicago (orland park) and I only saw downtown once in the 12 years I was there. I didn’t even go up in the Sears Tower until after we moved away and I came back to visit friends in the summer.
In the early 90s downtown Chicago was a hellscape filled with dark urban members

Nah cause you see a Metra commuter train in the first movie for a split second in the background. That confirms its a ways outside the city. More likely 30-60 minutes from downtown as the neighborhoods the Metra's go through near the city aren't.... well... they aren't as nice as the town we see Kevin in in the first film (the neighborhoods around Chicago are low poverty in all directions for miles until you get into the white flight perimeter.)
>>
>>217362677
i said that more as in "we don't know where exactly it is" because trying to pin down where "kevin's neighborhood" is ends up being a fool's errand because there are filming locations are all over the chicago metropolitan area
