Plot leak

>Present day. A family consists of a father (Jack Reynor), a mother (Laia Costa), and a small son (Dean Allen Williams) and daughter (Emily Mitchell). The mother is pregnant with another child.

>The daughter, Katie, goes for a walk and meets a strange woman (Hayat Kamille) who gives the girl a chocolate bar. Naturally, the situation raises no suspicions, and the girl gets used to the treats. For a while, this woman constantly gives chocolate to the girl, until one day she offers the child a peach containing an Egyptian scarab. The girl disappears. The family becomes desperate, calls the police, but the search yields no results.

>Eight years later. The family has an adult son (Shylo Molina) and a third child, a daughter (Billie Roy), the one the mother was pregnant with. One day, the son is walking and sees something emitting smoke in the sky and crashing not far from where he was. The curious son quickly goes to the plane crash site. He observes a strange situation: the plane was transporting a strange sarcophagus, which was significantly damaged. Peeking inside, the son sees a pale girl (Natalie Grace) who looks frighteningly like his missing sister. Police, detectives, and the father arrive at the accident scene.

>The father convinces the detectives (May Calamawy, May Elghety) that the body found is Katie’s. The paramedics save her, but her skin color and behavior remain strange. Strange things begin to happen in the house: the girl screams, levitates, and behaves in an extremely restless manner. Meanwhile, the detectives try to find out how the girl could have disappeared and find clues that lead them to the woman from the beginning of the movie. She explains that she was part of a cult that summoned the evil Mummy.

>The police find a tape recording of Katie’s sacrifice performed by their leader (Veronica Falcón). It is on this tape that we see a real mummy, who blows onto the girl and transfers the evil into the young vessel. The father is informed about this.

Meanwhile, Katie infects her younger sister by licking her foot. Now there are two possessed girls in the house, but the father discovers in time that the cult chanted certain words to transfer the mummy's consciousness to the vessel. Katie, meanwhile, eats a scorpion, which cuts her throat and vocal cords from the inside. The father realizes the situation is hopeless and performs a ritual in his house, asking the girls to pronounce the words from the tape. Katie pronounces them using the "fingers-to-mouth" method, since her vocal cords are torn. The evil is transferred from the two girls to the father.

>The father is mummified and placed in a sarcophagus in order to seal away the evil held inside him. A sequel hook teases that the cult are about to retrieve the sarcophagus and set the mummy free once again.

Sounds and looks way, way worse than that Tom Cruise one. Fucking dogshit that was obviously some other throwaway script being used with a familiar brand attached.

Seems so.
Worse mummy actress and design.
Worse plane crash scene if there is any at all.
Bogged down with crappy family drama similar to Wolfman 2025.

So its barely connected to ancient egypt at all and the name is just a trick to get people into theaters? Its not even about a fucking mummy, its about the spirit who inhabited the mummy and left ages ago. Hell I'd even have accepted those ideas for non egyptian mummy movies, like tibetan or Inca ones, that could have been cool, but this is just a lazy cashgrab.

pfff. that director... he is the next shamalaman, things were dull so his first movie made people feel something for the first time in a minute , but the movie was flawed as fuck, touches of rando self indulgences with no art to it, and it will be increasingly obvious in his subsequent movies. whatever.

Interesting that they kept the title instead of that rumored name change

>Lee Cronin's 'The Mummy' Reportedly Retitled 'The Resurrected'
>Reportedly, Lee Cronin's Mummy film to be "reworked" to remove all connections to the franchise after Universal thought the film did not warrant them.
>Apparently A source close to the project tells us that Universal Pictures, the owners of The Mummy property, are no longer willing to license the title to Cronin’s film at New Line Cinema.

looks horrible but I actually appreciate that Blumhouse is trying to make an actual horror movie again and not some teenager-pandering crap like they have been lately or some "the REAL monster is actually emotional trauma" crap like A24
>>217360663
I don't even understand how they can use the title, this is a Warner Bros movie and nothing related to The Mummy is in the public domain yet
did Blumhouse start this as a Universal project and they passed on it which is how Warner got it?

Not sure but maybe they licensed some of these. There's Also WB version of Bride of Frankenstein.. which was supposed to be Universal's 2nd Dark Universe film in 2019.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IhgcUArO3Uo

But then again, maybe it's some kind of a shared deal as for example Universal parks have Harry Potter land despite WB owning rights to Harry Potter.

>did Blumhouse start this as a Universal project and they passed on it which is how Warner got it?
probably something like that. Blumhouse has a first-look deal with Universal and they produced the last two low-budget takes on old Universal monsters, The Invisible Man with the ugly Handmaid chick and Wolf Man with /tv/'s wifu Julia Garner
probably pitched this to Universal and they turned it down but granted Blumhouse a one-off license so they could shop the project to other studios
what a bonehead move by Universal, they should have stipulated that Blumhouse had to change the title if they took it elsewhere. this is going to set The Mummy IP back another decade

shocker

So if she’s 8 years older when she comes back, does that mean she was held in captivity for 8 years?

When different actress plays her as a child before then it doesnt make sense anyway.

>Dracula Untold is a superhero-like reimagining of the character
>Cruise Mummy taking place in the 21st century and with Crowe as Dr Jekyll
>Invisible Man is a dude with a hi-tech suit that stalks his ugly ex-wife Elizabeth Moss
>Wolfman is a dude that gets super rabies and "transforms" into a dollar-thrift store version of Madman Marz
>muh toxic masculinity for both
>now that shit
Reject modernity, embrace tradition. The last great classic monsters movies will always be Coppola's Dracula, Branagh's Frankenstein and Joe Johnston's Wolfman, with Sommers' van helsing as a dumb fun bonus.
Why can't studios undertsand that classic monsters don't wor in a modern setting and that they're at they're best when science and rationality hasn't taken over religion and superstitions (so ideally, if you want it to be set in the 20th century, don't go beyond WW2; better yet, have it happen before).

Horrible. And why turning that guy into mummy at the end? Theyd better go with a sequel to Cruise one. Now when he's merged with Seth, endless possibilities.
