Let's talk about this kino. Very comfy. Lots of great dialogue and social commentary. Though the movie pokes fun at the aristocracy, i think the thinly veiled and politically incorrect message (even for its time) is that the decline of the aristocracy is a tragedy.
Did society go to shit ever since this class of people went extinct?

When you democratize anything you cheapen it and lower the quality. It's the end result of democratizing knowledge. The average person doesn't have the patience or the intellect to read and parse Nietsche or Dostoyevsky, but still likes the idea of being perceived as someone who does. You can pick up enough snippets of it here and there to be able to bullshit your way through a conversation, though, especially since the odds are good that the person you're conversing with has never read any of it either. So that's what most people do. People have been doing this for decades, the internet just makes it easier. This is just what most people are like: lazy and obsessed with raising their own status in the eyes of other people. The "media" and the "platform" don't dictate human behavior, they just amplify it.

The medieval order was probably the best model of society that humans ever came up with. You have a tiny sliver of the population whose literal one job is to read, write and copy books, and who spend their entire lives in a cloister with other autists. Most human knowledge is the purview of these people, but they don't really do anything with it. A few of them are employed to teach the basics of it to another tiny sliver of the population, whose job is to rule kingdoms and wage war. The remaining 99% of humans just spend their lives growing wheat and turnips and shit, without ever having any idea what Plato and Aristotle and St. Augustine thought about anything. They were honestly none the worse off for it.

Using a statist tool of DEI (and ESG!) policies to argue for feudalism which is precisely what they want. Dumbfk.

How's it in decline? Aristocrat class decides the wars, economic/monetary policies, flooding the plebeian neighborhoods with crime + drugs while keeping THEIR gated communities clean of them, Ivy League grads and post-grad/admin bureaucracies colluding with govt policies to stay on huge grants and subsidies that shut out small businesses outside of their monopolies (pharma; media mouthpieces.) Claiming ELITISM is dead in USA is SOPHISTRY.

I never said elitism is dead, just elite WASP culture
America is no longer anglo protestant in spirit, and does not venerate that culture anymore. The people in Whit Stillman movies are as alien to us as amazonian tribes

Shame Whit Stillman is a never-Trumper dork.

Trump is for low class proles.
What do you think "Metropolitan" means? Why do you think it was chosen for the name of the movie? retard

The idea that there were still White elites in NYC in the 90s is hilarious. They were driven out decades earlier.
