What the fuck is his problem?

He's a kinosseur in the age of slop, that's his problem
>>
>movie has leftist, liberal ideas
X movie is a pastiche, unauthentic, rip off

>movie has right wing ideas
X movie is a tasteful homage, a tribute

What happened to him? We used to have lots of threads about his opinions. Did he died?
>>
>>217365549
/tv/'s IQ dropped
but also Armond's writing got formulaic cause National Review NEEDS him to shoehorn into his reviews american politics. Even when the film is completely unrelated to them.

Looks American to me. So, probably that.

I hope Armond Nigger cried faggot tears when he saw Uncut Gems

I'd have to dig through his reviews to tell, but it seems probable that Roger Ebert's death was a big thing to Armond. He seemed to define himself as the anti-Ebert, providing an elitist, right wing perspective on popular movies counter to the populist, left wing approach of Ebert. White doesn't seem like he's as provocative anymore in the way he shits on the big films. It could also be that the rest of the world has caught up with him. When he was shitting on The Dark Knight, people thought he was crazy, but now even the most fervent slop-enjoyer can understand why some people think that stuff is shite.

He's gay huehuehuehue

Armond is the most honest modern critic.

He wasn't right wing before, that is what newfags don't know. If you actually read his review of The Dark Knight he simply complains about it being thematically messy and lacking humanism. His counterpoint to The Dark Knight in that same review is actually a gay themed french movie.
Armond's "cancellation" wasn't "political". He was basically pushed out by studio pressure. Studios didn't like how he was constantly shitting on movies that they expected most big outlets to review positively, so he was slowly being pushed out from everywhere. The culmination to this coincided with the 2016 culture war surge, and so the only people who ended up willing to work with him were the right wing outlets, but Armond himself eneded up needing to change up his reviews and add overtly conservative theming into them. And now he is basically in too deep.
>>

>he was knitting a scarf
Armond's definitely a bottom lol

This guy holds no real opinions, he just wants to be as contrarian as possible. Pretty similar to 4chan users
>>
>>217366982
he reviewed plenty of movies positively that got positive reviews from other critics, you can just go to his Rotten Tomatoes page to see for himself
he is contrarian in like very specific things
>>
>>217366522
If this is real, I am genuinely questioning my racism.
>>
>>217366928
I only read Armond White's reviews in the early 2010s and it was obvious from his review of The Dark Knight as nihilistic and The Man of Steel as visionary that there was a socially conservative underpinning to his reviews. Around that time, he was reviewing things from a point of view that was confusing to shitlib redditors, who are all nihilistic atheists. I don't think he was pushed into right wing beliefs / working with right wing publications. Those are his views and they've been like since the early 2010s. They're not as contrarian anymore because there are more people openly saying similar things.

The “contrarian” label is basically a confession of intellectual laziness.

Armond White isn’t a contrarian. a contrarian disagrees reactively. white disagrees structurally.

here’s the difference that fries people’s brains:
• contrarians invert consensus.
if critics say “good,” they say “bad.” it’s reflex, not thought.
• armond white interrogates premises.
he asks why a movie is being praised, what moral posture it’s rewarding, and which cultural myth it’s laundering. that means he sometimes lands opposite the herd, but the path there is coherent.
• he takes movies seriously as moral objects.
most critics today treat film like consumer tech. “does it function,” “does it represent,” “does it signal.” white treats cinema like literature or theology. that alone makes him radioactive to listicle brains.
• he’s consistent across decades.
a contrarian changes targets with the wind. white has been saying the same things since the 90s: critics confuse craft with virtue, transgression with depth, and politics with insight.

calling him a contrarian is like calling a dissident scientist “anti-science” because he won’t clap for bad models. it’s not an argument, it’s a social control word. shorthand for “this guy won’t affirm our vibes.”

the real reason people hate him is simpler and more embarrassing:
he breaks the spell.
once you read him, you can’t unsee how much modern criticism is PR with adjectives. and nobody likes the guy who points at the wires.

calling someone a contrarian isn’t an argument, it’s an admission you don’t understand their framework. if you can explain where white contradicts himself, do it. if not, keep throwing shoes.

ARMOND NEVER MISSES

>Twinless > One Battle After Another

>James Sweeney’s bromance asserted gender and romantic differences (not diversity) as the basis of our emotional common ground, from grief to friendship and big-L love — the most profound rom-com since Lubitsch’s That Uncertain Feeling. Paul Thomas Anderson’s shallow political farce was the unpopular — but media-favored — flick that mocked unresolved racism and sexism as the justification for civil war.

>Song Sung Blue > Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere

>Craig Brewer finds the spiritual center of Neil Diamond’s music in the true-life tale of working-class showbiz professionals played by Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson. It shames the narcissism and phony Americana of Scott Cooper’s biopic about the country’s phoniest rock star.

>A Minecraft Movie > Sinners

>Jared Hess makes the best-yet video game adaptation, blooming with childhood’s delight. But Ryan Coogler’s childish approach to black American culture — this time as a vampire rampage — insults authentic blues heritage while delighting only Obama-addled libs.

>When Fall Is Coming > Eddington

>François Ozon revisits the family secrets of a matriarch (Hélène Vincent) to reveal bonds of love, remorse, and forgiveness. Ari Aster’s parallel horror-flick approach — this time spooking the Covidapocalypse — makes remorse impossible, turning recent political history and panic into a disingenuous mess.

>Happy Gilmore 2 > One Battle After Another

>Kyle Newacheck directed Adam Sandler’s vision of American harmony-among-many — a golf-farce tournament played against the violent conflict of political adversaries. Sandler’s good humor opposed P.T.A.’s unbearable partisan vengeance.

I agree but I liked his original review of OBAA more because it was all about calling out PTA's black woman fetish.

Twinless is not a bromance at all, it's a really weird dark comedy and i have no idea what even the main thematic point of that film was
basically a homo has sex with another guy who then ghosts him, he stalks the guy and ends up being a witness to his death (he gets hit by a car)
the dead fag has an identical twin brother and the mc discovers that and tries to get a relationship with that guy by pretending that he also lost a twin brother
the surviving twin is straight and in the end the mc ends up sexually harassing the guy by sucking his toes (i guess he has a foot fetish), the guys beats the shit out of him for that rightfully
then some time later they meet again and reconcile for basically no reason, the end
