WWE already owns trademarks over names of real people. John Cena's name is his real birth name, and he signed the right to his name to WWE. Any time he's in a movie or there's anything with his name involved in it, they get a cut. that shit is fucking crazy if you ask me. owning your own name and image trademarks makes sense though. Am I correct in the understanding that I can mail myself something and have it copyrighted by the post date? Could I mail myself a list of futuristic ideas spammed by an ai and just sue oeople for a living? Could I mail myself lists of jingles and melodies and shut down the music industry? Why are people able to own rights to phrases and songs but I cant do this?
There has to be legal precedent for this. The Crispin Glover BTTF2 lawsuit laid a groundwork for punishing the use of an actor's likeness without their explicit permission.
