I've been watching Alfred Hitchock presents but it isn't quite as good. It has to be black and white and old timey.
>>217367211you mean line One Step Beyond and the original Outer Limits ?
>>217367281>Like One Step Beyond and the original Outer Limits?I actually haven't seen these shows ty for the recommends anon!
>>217367211You'll be low on options then. I say watch the 1980's Twilight Zone, it's very underrated and full of solid episodes.
>>217367431I've seen it and I did enjoy it quite a bit. It's different and very 80's but in a good way I guess. Haven't finished it though. Any episode recommendations? I also wouldn't mind other 1960's show recommendations. I tried watching the first episodes of Gilligan's Island and Get Smart but couldn't really get in to those.
>>217367371>>217367211there isn't anything like the original twilight zone.I've gone through tons of these anthology series. 1960s twilight zone was one of a kind, not all episode are good but most are, more than one would expect.i found original outer limits lame and outdated compared to twilight zone - a lot of it is shitty robots and flying saucers and rubber aliens and stupid normal 50s/60s scifi crap with little imagination.twilight zone had a ton of novel ideas, and even the flying saucer etc episodes are more about the characters, as a friend pointed out 20 years ago - the same fucker that introduced me to this site in fact.the 1995 outer limit however has a lot of quality episodes, some of the most memorable of which have dark twist endings which tend to haunt you after the episode's over.there are a handful of episodes from other anthologies which are memorable, but overall not great.5-6 good episodes from the 80s twilight zone remake/boot, which unfortunately is incredibly corny and jewish on the whole.the later TZ series are awful.
>>217367534Why the fascination with old stuff?I rec Beverly Hillbillies, I Love Lucy, Dennis The Menace, The Monkees for early sitcoms.Threes Company for 70s/80s sitcoms. If you want truly weird, surreal black n white movies watch Last Year At MarienbadEven Dwarfs Started Small
Also watch the 80s Amazing Stories. Also watch Twin Peaks.
>>217367534>general 1960s showshogan's heroes' first episode only is in black and white but it's very 1960s and also actually fucking funnyin general >>217367673 is right though, there's really nothing quite like the original twilight zone run. it really is an anthology of character pieces and how humans are still human no matter the setting (there is an episode actually called almost exactly that, but- i won't spoil it) and futurism and sci fi are fun and cool but also cool as just set dressing for really fucking good actors doing their thing. and yeah you can say it was political at times, rod serling was that kind of guy, but there is a massive fucking difference between even the worst twilight zone episode and anything new that gets compared to it. if you ever hear someone mention any of those netflix specials like love sexy robots or black mirror or whatever in the same breath as twilight zone, you have a good reason to ignore anything else that person will ever say, because it's not going to be worth hearing
>>217368005only of the only episodes from a modern anthology series that stuck in my mind was 'a view through a window' in the series Night Visions. don't read spoilers or anything.felt more like a 1995 outer limits episode.black mirror people kept telling me to watch and the few episodes I have seen of it were either mediocre or awful, but with no intelligence or sharpness to them in the slightest.quite a lot of the original twilight zone episodes can function as observations of a specific feeling or part of life that's rarely expressed, some almost allegories useful for modern concepts.of course a lot of the background of the more obvious episodes are the cold war, and various other themes of the time.
Watch tales from the darkside if you can handle gore/gross stuff
>>217367211Ultra Q
>>217367281I'm saving the outer limits for nuclear bunker viewing. So far a story of some janitor fighting alien tentacles alone was fmgiid low budget sfx
>>217368317low rent seedy shit for the most park, the audo alone is grimey.tales from the crypt at least had a budget, some professionalism and humour to it. darkside felt like a jew had kidnapped some people and locked them in a sewer until they read the lines.
>>217368393go straight to the 95 series which is excellent and canadian
>>217368317Hammer house of horror had an interesting one about clear glass coffin for a rich guy
>>217367534For anyone else that might be reading, I'll do a run down, you can see I prefer the sci-fi stories over the fantasy ones.>Examination DaySimple future story, can get you into this 1980's series>To See the Invisible ManAnother future story, but with a much stronger plot and interesting twist on society>The StarVery sci-fi, and barely a twilight zone at all. It's really just a short story playing out with some thought provoking questions on alien life.>The Toys of CalibanWritten by George R R Martin and it's very his style and unsettling, this one stayed with me.>A Game of PoolRemake of the original, but felt it was well acted and directed. Hard to do a whole episode on pool, but they do a good job.>Many, Many MonkeysDoctors dealing a disease, but also how they deal with grief and move from the suffering of the world>The Hellgramite MethodThe acting in this is fucking great. It's a heavy handed message kind of episode, but I was impressed with it.>The Curious Case of Edgar WitherspoonKind of silly, but kind of a dark comedy too. I think of this episode a lot, it's got such a good set piece in it. I fucking love this episode, it's so stupid and genius at the same time.
>>217367849Ehhh I just really like 1960's cinema in general but never really watched any tv shows until I found TTZ. The episodes are kind of like low budget short films. I don't mind newer or older stuff but right now I just really feel like watching something from that era with a similar vibe. I'll keep your reccs in mind and I have seen Last Year at Marienbad. If you liked it yourself you should see the lesser known ones by Alain Resnais. Personally I really love Mon Oncle D'amerique and Je T'aime... Je T'aime (this one is actually a sci fi story set in Belgium/France in the late 60's, it's about a suicidal guy that wants to use a time machine to see his dead girlfriend again, but then it malfunctions and he gets stuck in a time loop or something. It's very surreal and late 60's, I'd definitely call it an underrated gem) >>217367902I don't really like anything David Lynch but i'll check out the other show ty for the reccs anon. >>217368005>There is an episode actually called almost exactly that, but- i won't spoil itI've seen like 90% of the show that's why I'm looking for something new and yes 100% agree on the show mostly being about human interaction/nature with a scifi twist. The particular episode you mentioned got parodied in Either Futurama or The Simpsons not that long ago I believe. >Black Mirror Yeah miss me with that shit I don't even have to watch 5 minutes of the first episode to know I won't like it lol I might see an episode or 2 of TTZ reboot that the Mad TV guy did for the lolz
>>217368698>The Curious Case of Edgar Witherspoonthe original of that story is far better. I was searching for it for years, then someone 15-20 years ago told. me where is was from and then I forgot it. wasn't t a twilight zone
>>217368698of the 80s series, a couple of the only ones that stuck with me were "the cold equations" and "a little peace and quiet".
>>217368871It's weird you don't like Lynch, because a bunch of twin peaks shit and some of his other work were heavily influenced by the Twilight zone. He was 13 when it first aired. He either consciously or subconsciously had stolen concepts or moments from the Twilight Zone's first run.
>>21736919180s Amazing Stories was produced by Spielberg and he had several big name directors on that, including Marty.
Star Trek Next Gen also has several twilight zone type episodes
This is the Best twilight zone episode that's not a twilight zone episode, it's from 1990 and not available anywhere else.It was nominated for best short film at the academy awards.Do not read the comments and spoil it.Incredible lead performance by "bitches leave" guy.https://youtu.be/fVooyfaPYD8
Its not black and white but consider Serling's followup series after TZ, Night Gallery.
>>217369404Bruce Willis has been dead the whole time
>>217369639I wish
>>217369404knew what it was by the time you said bitches leave.saw that in the early 90s and really liked it. the made for tv film remake was poor though.
>>217369475Tyty will check it out. I'm going to check the screenwriter profiles on IMDB of the people who wrote some of the best episodes to see what they worked on after the show finished.
>>217369404>Do not read the comments and spoil it.Just watched it, not like there's much to spoil. I don't know why I was expecting more.
>>217369404that guy had a miserable performance. and it was a mediocre movie.
>>217369883lol. i got hoodwinked too. i kept thinking it would make a cool left turn. alas.
You might try some b&w movies from that era, like "Carnival of Souls," which plays like a feature-length Zone episode, or "The Intruder," starring TZ actor William Shatner and written by TZ author Charles Beaumont. One influence on TZ was the late 1940s radio series QUIET, PLEASE! The episodes often survive in bad sound, but there have been various efforts to clean them up. See, for example:https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLEF8poSSerJF5K1AYp7mYfcGoRp8Qe1_cIt's an anthology with a mix of SF, horror, fantasy, comedy, and crime drama. Always literate, often eerie, and with TZ-like twist endings.
>>217369883>>217369934you've been ruined by all the derivatives that were made since unfortunately.
>>217369934My condolences. Have some kino on the house:>https://tubitv.com/movies/100021837/requiem-for-a-heavyweight-playhouse-90-versionRod Serling's best work in my humble opinion.>>217370040It's just a bunch of stuff that happened. I've been spoiled by post-1910s cinema bothering to have things like arcs and meaning. The only thing it had going for it was a cromulent performance and an unresolved air of intrigue.
>>217370132>arc in a loopfunnyyou must be an AI or bastard son thereof
>>217370299Careful anon, you don't want to spoil that the entire plot and premise can be reduced to one sentence!
>>217370364>I wead the diskwipshen ov evwi fiwm on weddit befowr I watch it
