This kids show was criminally underrated. Why didn't it run longer?
>>
Early Disney original sitcoms were still experimenting with formulae before finally settling on the Hannah Montana formula (e.g. laugh tracks required)

Too much child rape even by Disney standards
>>
Disney would only make 66 episodes of a show because that was the minimum amount it needed for reruns of some shit. Also very funny show and Tawny was my first crush

Yeah for syndication
Back before the streaming meta took over 65 episodes was the magic number to sell to affiliate networks (or internationally) because 5 episodes a week times 13 weeks (or, a quarter of the year) = 65 episodes. So it basically gave a network a programming block they could drop in between other shows in the offseason, or whenever. And for the television production, a successful show was just one that survived long enough to hit this number.
Additionally, but also because of this planning - typically producers would sign their actors with 3 season contracts.
Shia Lebouf was already leading movies like Holes when the time the show ended, so there was no chance they were gonna resign him.
Lizzie Mcguire only ran 3 seasons as well, and resigning Hillary Duff would've cost a fortune. And why bother? You've already got the fully realized product - 65 episodes ready to sell.

On top of all that Disney's demographics would age in and out of the network so fast that there was almost no point in continuing a sitcom as opposed to just running rerun blocks.
