Terrence Fletcher did nothing wrong.Dedicating yourself wholly to your craft is LE BAD!!!!
goofy movie
>>217371328>get into a car crash for school bandIt’s not that fucking serious
>>217371328Whenever I see that actor my first thought goes to anal sex and Nazism.
>>217371375Not to you, nor most people. But to them, it is.
>>217371328He was unironically right. The people who make the history books arent thinking about feelings they are doing what needs to be done and doing it right with complete disregard for feel good bullshit.
>>217371382Whenever I see him my first thought goes to cornhorn
>>217371406That's what I'm saying. Is it healthy? No. But if you want to be the absolute best, you've gotta pay a price. For like 95% of the population they have nothing that's worth it, but those that do are remembered forever. The other path is dying young before achieving your peak.
>>217371396>it isNo, it shouldn’t be. It’s a movie where everyone is ultimately fine but if he shattered his shoulder he’d never be able to play again.
>>217371456Then he shattered his shoulder. Shit happens. Sometimes you get fucked. The point is the dedication. Is he going to get in a car crash before every performance? No. Is he going to have the dedication to be willing to die for his performance? Yes.
>>217371492>10 mins late vs showing up on time(or not at all) bloodied with a broken limbRetardation. He wasn’t always late. That was all psyops the music teacher put on him. Besides it isn’t like punctuation would make or break how his performance was judged
The funniest movie in the past decade. He's so over the top aggressive it only comes across as goofy to me, zoomers must be really soft if they really felt scared by him.
>>217371570I think you're missing the point. Again, it's about dedication. Doing whatever the fuck is demanded of you. Period. You don't have to agree, big part of the movie is that most people wouldn't, but end of the day he's right about what it takes to be the best
>faster = better!Jazz fucking sucks
>>217371592You definitely would be if he were screaming in your face and throwing shit at you also he determines whether you succeed or fail in your future career. You’re probably Indian and your highest job prospects are being an assistant manager at a motel 6 though
>>217371658I'd piss & shit if he were in my face.Piss & shit
>>217371674You would do that anyway Ranjeesh
>>217371658You sound like a woman
>>217371328>Terrence Fletcher did nothing wrong.>Dedicating yourself wholly to your craft is LE BAD!!!!/sssssssssssss
>>217371683You sound like a 12 year old. If a professor were throwing chairs at people and their authority is never questioned it would make anyone uneasy
>>217371592>>217371658>>217371683People who are "scared" of him should be questioned about their relationships with their fathers. Absent father, abusive father, beta father would bet it's one of the three
>>217371716I’m waiting for the inevitable >I would just quit/hit him Response… come on I know you already have it loaded 400 lb tough man so just get it out of the way
What I don't get is that 1. He's funny, so that eases the tension2. You can leave whenever the fuck you want and choose one of multiple lesser classesIf he was producing shit, why would people want to be under his tutelage? Obviously he has a strong record.
>>217371712>their authority is never questionedhe literally gets fired for it
>>217371858He was a professor for decades though and did the same thing to other protégés
>>217371879Which reinforces the point that they took it because they wanted the pressure.
>>217371328There are still people who haven't realized that Whiplash is a satirical dark comedy ala Varsity BluesWatch the film again knowing what I said
>>217371953Of course it is, the movie is about J. Jonah Jameson smacking the shit out of Reed Richards
>>217371953I fucking love Jon Voight.
>>217371658Bro, just get up and leave the classroom if that starts happening it's fucking college
>>217371926They thought they did. That’s the whole point and why we’re told the one guy killed himself. The suicide leading to him being fired
>>217371984Had they been given the choice I'd bet many would still choose to be his student.
>>217371968You’ve never had a responsibility bigger than dishwasher have you? Someone attending a prestigious university couldn’t just “run away”
>>217372005Pretty sure people drop and pick up different classes all the time, anonThe end result is Starbucks barista either way
>>217372005I would never attend a fucking music school in the first place Anyone spending tens to hundreds of thousands to drum deserves to be slapped and yelled at
>>217372005You literally can. It's not even as if you're dropping out, you just request a different instructor. If Fletcher's entire band is hand-picked it'd imply you can return to your previous class
as someone with a creative spirit this is one of the most honest stories about the process of becoming more skilled that has ever been made. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills whenever I talk to people about it "the ending was a bad thing!" No it fucking wasn't both characters finally achieved what they wanted. If it was a football movie where the guy proved the coach right by winning the big game after breaking his own body and soul and abandoning his friends/family nobody would bat an eye but because it's an artistic pursuit "that isn't necessary those guys have natural talent"
>>217372062They could but being hand picked by him and graduating is a better descriptor for their resume
>>217371716Then why is that their fault? People don’t get to choose their father’s roles in their lives.
>>217372099You’re looking at the final scene in a vacuum. He had to sacrifice future relationships and all that to get to that point and only be dedicated to drumming.
>>217372130Not saying it's their "fault" I mean it likely colors their perspective if they lacked a healthy authority figure in their life.Again, not to say what Fletcher does is healthy. It's not. But having that background will likely aid in you seeing what he's trying to do
>>217371328funniest movie i've ever seen
>>217372156Which was the point. Why are people thinking you can have it all?You can be happy, or you can be the best. If you're blessed by Jesus himself you can be both.
Noticed there are zero women in his band. What did they mean by this?
>>217372166All I was just saying that anyone who pretends like if they were in Andrew’s shoes and wouldn’t feel uncomfortable or uneasy with Fletcher yelling in their face and throwing things are lying. It has nothing to do with a psychoanalysis, that’s pretty much standard practice for drill sergeants to fuck with new recruits heads, scream, and make them uneasy which Fletcher does and they both have authority
>>217372156Many people sacrifice future relationships for literally nothing.
>>217372005faggot
>>217372329Put the fries in the bag
>>217372250Of course you'd be uncomfortable. Andrew himself is. I don't think anybody is saying/would say you should be fine with it.The question is whether you can take it.
>>217371328The dinner scene where he made fun of the sportsball faggots was good.
>>217372005its a music school, the end result is being a dishwasher. might as well not put up with faggot boomer abuse
