What stood out to me about FaA's final battle more than the deja vu scenes from A1 was how abrupt and mechanical the pacing of the battle was.>Na'vi/Tulkun ambushHalf the RDA fleet wiped out in moments, 0% Na'vi/Tulkun casualties>Mangkwan reinforcementsAerial Na'vi totally overwhelmed, but this is bundled with the RDA's submarine forces only now coming online and also totally overwhelming the Reef Clans and Tulkun>aftermath, whaling fleet assembles for the mother/calf slaughterFriendly named characters stagger around in shock, have scenes dying or being captured, all other friendly forces seemingly vanished including multiple 300 foot long Tulkun matriarchs who can't be dead but are all conveniently laying low while the countdown to slaughter their children reaches 0>Eywa counterattackFeral squid and ikran everywhere, but now Na'vi pop back out and also the matriarchs who apparently were ready to let the whalers fire at least one full volley into the mothers and calves before acting.It's just like when the Metkayina all fucked off in TWoW so there could be an isolated brawl on the sinking Sea Dragon despite the chief's daughter still being there.Obviously done for convenience but it's so jarring that it really shouldn't have been. I can't remember anything like it happening in A1.

There was an initial ambush that favored Na'vi in the air, then losses became mixed with plenty of Na'vi shot down, meanwhile the Na'vi ground charge was decimated and the Na'vi air pressure peters out.The wildlife horde then overwhelms the formerly dominating RDA ground forces and pressures the air enough for Jake to get in and sabotage the Valkyrie and Dragon, but there's no Na'vi resurgence. There's back and forth, different situations on air and ground and entire factions aren't tapping out during the tragedy music so they can reappear for the uplifting orchestral swell.

Until the ashclan came in I was feeling rather underwhelmed, like they were bodying the humans to such a laughable degree it was less cool and more "stop stop, he's already dead". It felt like they were dragging out the fight to be an entire hour for the sake of having an hour long fight. It didn't really make sense to me why they were whupping them in the water and then all of a sudden they stop whupping them and need the squids when it was the air-game that was getting fucked up.There's really no way to fix it beyond just putting the ending battle of 3 in 2, and then changing it for 3. I could see Varang helping to make Quarich get a lightbulb in his head to draw Sully out not with fucking whales but rather with a threat back to the Omatikayan spirit tree. Sully gets pulled back because he may be sea-tribe but he's also forest-tribe, Neytiri gets more bite in her angst with Spider (Quaritch is threatening her family and her tree because he wants spider back, so give him back or kill him). Then have the sea-tribe come to aid them because this is a fight for all na'vi blah blah blah.But again, Cameron loves his fukkin water.

>>217372492No. The movie originally had Jake convince the Na'vi to use the guns, and the final battle had the Na'vi outfitted with RDA weaponry. This was the final battle before JC also decided to add the Toruk into the movie. Cameron confirmed he changed it after a viewing of a cut last year because he felt Jake giving arms to his tribes while Quaritch had done so with the Ash clan didn't sit right with him thematically after seeing the whole movie (worst part is that i don't necessarily disagree with him, especially coming off the scene of sparing Spider, but the changes came way too late imo)

I hope the whole fiasco that happened splitting up and rewriting TWoW/FaA doesn't happen with 4 and 5. If Jim can avoid that and get out of the water for a bit he could really knock it out of the park.
