I've nearly finished SVU and didn't realize there were so many spin-offs and that SVU, itself, was a spin-off. I am tempted to start Major Crimes just because of Stabler but I should probably start with the original 1990 series right?

Can anyone also tell me how these series' differ? Are they all the exact same formula?
