He was already knighted with a new title by Palpatine. then it is no longer a title, he becomes Vader. and the Sith knighthood ceremony is important because it plants that seed in Anakin. it is also important that the ritual be a mockery of a Jedi ceremony. important to Anakin more than anything. depends on how far back that Sith custom goes. fascinating to wonder about.so for all the shit ppl give Lucas about Obi-Wan's lines and line of reasoning in ROTJ, he more or less redeemed it, and made it good. epic storytelling. the last true epic we will see for some time, i fear.

He was a slave, his mom was a slave, yet they only bothered to rescue him when he was useful to them, and never bothered to help his mom. He was taken from his family and any hope of life or love to be used as a warrior monk by a government that was nakedly corrupt, and sent to war where he and fellow child soldiers were maimed regularly. You can throw some after-the-fact stuff in there like Ahsoka being expelled on a lie and various little niggles in the war, but even just in the film canon it makes sense.

Owning up to the reality of what happened with Anakin and Obi-Wan's very human anxiety would have made for a more natural and much better scene (even for kids) than the empty handwaving we got. Lucas seemed dead set on making Obi-Wan as boring as possible given the prequels.
