Are there any movies that feel more epic than lord of the rings?
>>
Chronicles of Riddick
>>
>>217391538
No
>>
no this is where hollywood peaked
>>
>>217391538
Waterloo
Ben Hur
The Phantom Menace
Fantasia on mushrooms
>>
Duel of the Fates peaks harder than LoTR. Obviously loses on total epicness.
>>
>>217391610
why not just watch LotR on shrooms?
>>
>>217391620
It's a bit too hard to follow
Shit like Fantasia is like just cartoon with no plot and heady classical music. Perfect for my shroom vibe
>>
kino

>>
No.
LOTR was a perfect storm of
>genuine labour of love from director + a sizeable portion of cast
>made at the perfect time (late 90's/early 2000's) due to synergy of high tech, high ability and high industry knowledge coupled with low to nonexistent DEI woke shenanigans + pre-streaming era so quality over quanity approach
>opted for model-based aesthetic over CGI
>NZ willing to brand itself upon the movies thus unprecedented access to land
>>
The obvious answer is Lawrence of Arabia
>>
>>217391538
Very difficult, perhaps Kingdom of Heaven? Been a long time since I've watched that though.
>>
>>217391620
i would rather jump off a 20ft bridge than sit through this whole movie while on shrooms
>>
>>217391632
some of the scenes would be cool to look at but it'd be really hard to make sense out of it
>>
>>217391538
Reminder they're showing the extended editions in theater for just another week.
>>
>>217391676
I saw it last time, definitely worthwhile if you've never seen it in theaters before (like me).
I only had one miss, for RotK I had an autist (real) sitting next to me who occasionally would stim in a distracting way.
>>
There are be some historical miniseries from the 70s/80s/90s that were on the same scale in terms of story, writing, and acting... but definitely not in production values.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_the_Great_(miniseries)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_and_Peace_(1972_TV_series)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Napoleon_(1991_TV_series)
And more that I can't remember. We watched a bunch of these in my high school history classes when the teachers didn't feel like doing anything. But that was like 20 years ago now.

And it manages to feel grander despite being about a dude having an identity crisis in the desert.
>>
>>217391934
What was his problem anyways? Was he just gay for Arab men or did he really care about liberation?
>>
>>217391642
Guess I will watch this then
>>217391538
>Underworld series
>300
>300 Rise of an Empire
>Immortals
Need surround sound
>>
>>217391538
filmed all at the same time, under a singular vision, where everyone agreed to keep politics or agendas out. i dont know if we can ever have something like this again
>>
>>217391983
He didn't fit into british society. He tried to become an arab but their society was ultimately as alien to him as the brits were. There's no home for Lawrence.
>>
>>217391538
Lawrence of Arabia
Cleopatra
Ben Hur
The Ten Commandments
Waterloo
War and Peace (Russian version)
>>
I wish the author would have been more upfront and less homophobic about Sam and Frodo being partners. Think about it:
>slept in tents together for years
>never had any girlfriends
>relied on magic to keep them going
>knew each others intimate, dark secrets
they were gay partners and loved each other very much.
>>
>>217392152
No homo
>>
>>217391538
ong avengers is better than this uncslop fr
>>
>>217392221
No they weren't you projectionist. They were war buddies who belonged to a very long lived race. But
>Relied on magic to keep them going
is funny. Mortal homos have to rely on meth which is what you meant.

not a projectionist, just a realist. At the very least they were queer for each other.
>>
>>217392342
the story ends with Sam pumping Rosie Cotton full of gallons of hobbit cum, and he was lusting after her the entire time
>>
>>217391538
I don't know about more but pic related is on the same level at least. You're welcome. Also TT and ROTK are vastly inferior to Fellowship
>>
>>217391620
don't do this, it will just ruin the movie for you after because you will never feel as amazing as you did when on shrooms
>>
>>217392342
No, they weren't. Did you read the books or are you just going by the movies? The books do a better job explaining Hobbit culture and the relationship Sam and Frodo have. It isn't gay at all. Even in the movies they aren't particularly gay.
>>
>>217391538
>more
Here are two that feel similar.
>>
>>217391563
God bless you.
>>
>>217391715
Oh god I didn't even consider what other creatures I'll be sharing the theater with, but I can't pass it up because I've never seen them in theater either.
>>
>>217392342
The hermeneutics of gay suspicion has been a disaster for male friendship
>>
>>217391538
Rebel Moon, but ya'll ain't ready for that conversation.
>>
Yes, a lot actually. Even some in the fantasy genre. Die Nibelungen, Excalibur and Conan all feel more epic than LotR.
>>
>>217392342
kikes use sex as a means of control
>>
>>217392221
>>217392342
Kill yourself, faggot.
>>
>>217391538
Waterloo and the War and Peace series. We are NEVER getting kino made like this again. Nigga had an unlimited budget and time from the Soviet Union and a real army to play an onscreen army. The officers giving the orders were the real officers of the soldiers. He basically taught 1970s ruskies how to be 19th century infantry and cavalry.
>How do we show the scenes of horses being shot out from under men?
>do it for real with tripwires
>>
reminder that Sam is the most important member of the fellowship
>>
>>217391538
It's kind of the peak of what Hollywood can accomplish, as far as I'm concerned. It's what makes the end of Return of the King so bittersweet for me. We'll never see anything like it again. Not even Jackson himself could make lightning strike twice.

I really wish that Warner would have put a little more effort into the 25th anniversary, and did a theatrical release of the "Extended Extended Editions" that add even more of the deleted scenes, and maybe touches up some of the wonkier effects shots that haven't aged as well (the War of the Last Alliance scene at the beginning of Fellowship, the warg riders from Two Towers, the shots of Gollum in Fellowship where he looks nothing like he does in Two Towers and Return of the King, etc).
>>
>>217391538
Predator: Badlands
>>
>>217391638
>opted for model-based aesthetic over CGI

There's a few shots where that looks like shit though, where actors are badly composited onto the miniatures, and kind of look like 2D sprites or something, it reminds me of the end of the Spawn movie, where they're in Hell, and there's that whole army of Spawns that look like 2D sprites pasted onto shitty 3D CG rocks.
>>
This is just fantasy capeshit. If you want to watch a good film, watch The Fall of Otrar
>>
>>217391590
Ironically, yes.
It's actually a sci-fi DnD campaign made by a legit nerd.
I'm actually surprised that the dnd movie didn't hire diesel to be a random barbarian warlord.
>>
>>217392519
you don't even need the hobbit cultural background; the sam-frodo relationship is the idealized servant-master relationship
frodo is a wise benevolent master that never gives sam too much work, and sam is a loyal servant that always takes care of frodo

at least by the end of the story their relationship does even out a good amount. sam becomes much more authoritative and frodo becomes more down to earth, so by the end they're more or less equals
>>
just got back from the 25th anniversary screening
still amazing
eat shit DUNC you will never be lotr
>>
>>217394812
I'll at least give something in the modern era credit for trying. I happen to like Dunc, but it's not even in the same category.
>>
>>217392342
>>217392221
Those who cannot conceive of Friendship as a substantive love but only as a disguise or elaboration of Eros betray the fact that they have never had a Friend
>>
>>217394768
>The Fall of Otrar
never heard of it
>>
>>217394805
All true and good points. Hobbit culture adds even more context to Sam and Frodos not gay relationship though and its interesting.
>>
LotR is proto-quipcore, the first and second films were terrible for it
>>
>>217391538
The Stand TV series. The original one, not the modern abortion.
Conan
>>
>>217394880
It's just loser coomers, homos who are projecting/poisoning the well, and people who want to turn all male friendship into a homosexual scare to prevent men from becomming friends and becoming some kind of threat. If racism doesn't work calling them fags will.
Why do you think the typical masculine man is a fag thing is so prevelent?
>>
>>217395257
You forgot illiterates. Most people who discuss the LOTR movies online aren't even capable of reading The Hobbit.
>>
>>217394112
Stop responding to obvious bait you fucking retard
>>
>>217394279
They really didn't do him justice by casting Sean Astin
>>
>>217394737
Still a better solution than heavy CGI like The Hobbit. The miniatures in LOTR can't be topped.
>>
>>217392293
In the books their relationship is even gayer. When they're climbing the stairs to Cirith Ungol Frodo lays his head in Sam's lap to sleep and Sam strokes his hair.
>>
>>217396070
sometimes a bro needs a little comforting
>>
>>217393768
Atomized boomers did this. The managerial state wanted everyone to become an individual so they’d be naked and alone before managerial power. Friendship was one of the casualties, alongside romance and family formation.
>>
>>217394812
same. haven't seen an auditorium fully packed like that in a long time.
>>
>>217391538
No. Its peak. Sword and sandal stuff of the same era is also nice but lacks the comfiness like Troy and Gladiator etc
>>
White Propaganda Game of Thrones is superior to Lord of the Rings

For me? Thriumph of the will

The dune movies really miss the world building, context and scale the book helps provide through its chapter opening quotes.
