I believe so. Mostly I think it's to keep people from guessing he was Jonas easily.

They did such a good job finding older actors that looked like the younger except Jonas and Martha. They had to go so far as to give her a scar so people know who is who.

Not really abysmal when many other netflix originals are far worse. Imo it suffered from exactly the same as Tenet: creators trying to recapture previous success by doing sort of the same thing but different.

this is good comparison to dark imo because, like dark, if theres any enjoyment to be had it is solely through the plot, since there is nothing engaging there on a character level. tho with tenet one could argue there is at least some spectacle there that is staged in an exciting manner and shot to be visually arresting. dark is full of unmoving, static shots that betray the lack of interest in filmmaking or really anything other than plot, by its creators.
