Given the overall quality of the show, this was easily one of the worst show endings I've ever seen. Ambiguity only works if the creator does indeed have a definitive answer for the conclusion in his head, whether he tells it or not. There is not enough evidence provided in the show to forma theory on if the last operation changed him or not, that's why ambiguity works better on overall plot points rather than character arcs. How the fuck are we supposed to know if he changed or not, if we the audience haven't interacted with him post operation. Sad man, was really good up until that last second. waste.

I didn't foresee that ending, and I'm still not certain what I think of it, but overall the show/manga is a masterpiece. The ending doesn't change that IMO

I have no idea what the point of this anime was, what it was trying to say

Overrated shit

Monster sucks, Sorry to say. It's creepy and fun for a while but the writer only had up until when Dieter is held at gunpoint. That's why the ending is like that. It's just the same thing again. Everything inbetween is the The Adventures of The Dumbest Characters Spinning Their Wheels

Top 5 Smartest Monster Characters:
1: Johan
2. Dieter
3. Dieter's Soccer Ball
4. Uhhhh
5. Never Mind

People who call this a Perfect Masterpiece are just jerking each other off for being in the club.

I didn't care for Monster. Kino characters and premise but plot was too meandering. Ending was a wet fart. Also suffers from classic "trying to write a character smarter than the author" nonsense like BBC Sherlock

Something about fear and charisma and Hitler I guess

cringe tranny faggot.

>I'm still not certain what I think of it
and thats why it sucks, its not because youre not sure, its because you dont know what to think at all, which makes complete sense
>>
It's rough but it had the makings of a varsity athlete. Someone could make a fantastic live action remake out of it, fixing some of the mistakes.

i agree johan was just plot armour the chracter, what was special about him was his demeanor look and look, and had an almost supernatural aura, demon like, which what i was hoping to see at one point, well maybe not necesarrliy that, but something that solodifies why he is so special, but in reality all the other characters are pretty retarded/neurotic that just freeze anytime they see him, and that wasnt dieter at the end, it was a new kid who looked similar i dont know his name though
>>
From a storytelling perspective, it was absolutely riveting throughout. The characters, no matter how minor, are almost all wonderfully-drawn and fleshed out. I think that's the series' greatest strength.

But yeah, the ending kind of makes you wonder what the point was. It was a great ride for me regardless

i watched alot of it on 2x speed, which is surpsring since its not that long episodes time wise, only 20 mins long, but theres a lot seemingly side plot and tonal chnages that make it somewhat disjunct, if youre gunna bounce around in ton, then trim the fat

>It was a great ride
i would agree, but that ending was like a screeching stop that makes you fly out the windshield, it was just so lazy

Broadly speaking it's kind of a thought experiment regarding the value of human life. The main character is put into a position where he alone, as a neurosurgeon, determines the fate of someone's life, and he ends up saving a life that would cost many other people their lives.

>Also suffers from classic "trying to write a character smarter than the author" nonsense like BBC Sherlock
So true. Other than the episode where Johan causes the detective to relapse on alcohol and kill himself, the series does a shit job of conveying that Johan is actually an intelligent mastermind. It almost always falls back on writing other characters to TELL you that Johan is a dark triad manipulator, without actually explaining what specifically he was doing to fuck with people.

I agree, I was pretty hooked the whole time. Made me cheer out loud at a couple moments and that's very rare for me.

But the ending did suck and Johan's motives and methods were overly muddy and ambiguous. I honestly think the author just couldn't come up with anything good that made sense.
>>

Should have been 30 episodes shorter which would have helped a lot.
>JOHAN NANI?! x 500
>Welcome back sis x 500
We get it you were traumatized fuck.
>>
Imagine

>Tenma makes minor error in Johan's surgery, he dies
>"Oops"
>show is only like 2 or 3 episodes long
>>
Monster is awful. 25 episodes of material stretched out to 75, characters repeat the same mistakes over and over just to keep the show going.
All exposition is handled as subtly as a punch to the face, like how characters internal monologues are constantly spoken out loud, even in front of other characters.
You're not supposed to leave that shit in when adapting a comic book - it makes sense in a comic, it makes no fucking sense in a tv show and just makes the show feel like it was made by people with no experience with being around other human beings.

One of the greatest anime of all time.
>>
>>217410857
is it because it is Japanese and translation into english doesnt really work that well, because alot of the dialogue seems very autistic like too matter of fact and over the top, like if hollywood adapted this, it could be perfect, even change the ending

Billy Bat > 20th Century Boys > Monster > Pluto

is there anything better than this that's similar, preferably slower
>>
>>217410366
No, I'm saying the first time a kid is held at gunpoint (Dieter) and Ten a has to have a moral reckoning about what to do, THAT is the ending. It was THE ending and the Doctor who held the kid was supposed to be Johann. So then they meander after that and travel around and have Johannless adventures all to come up to Johann holding a kid at gunpoint (not Deiter) and Tenma having to make a moral reckoning.

just a repeat yea, shitty ending
