Is HDR a scam? To me it feels like they're just restoring the color they removed from the non-HDR version that was perfectly achievable with old panels. No one ever complained about stuff lacking color before, but now people often complain about movies and shows lacking color and tech shills respond with the need of owning HDR capable displays. This all feels like a trick to me.
Good HDR is phenomenal, especially on OLED displays. But honestly most movies, especially those made before 2010, don't have great HDR editions. You also gain most of the benefits of HDR through image clarity, which is why so many tech demos for HDR televisions are just high resolution nature shots. The best they can do with grainy older films is increase the nits on torches and vehicle headlights.
Outting yourself as someone who watches movies on their computer monitor should cause an instant ban desu
>>217412020There was some capeshit movie I was watching that had scenes in it that looked completely different than the SDR version. The plastics of the set looked drastically different between the two; one looked like you were standing on-set (you could clearly see the cheapness) and the other like regular ol' video.
>>217411703Yes it's a scam. No film was shot for HDR until like the late 90s. And even then we didn't have screens to display it.No theatre does HDR.HDR works best on OLEDs but most OLEDs are not bright enough for HDR.When a retard says "wow this new 4k release with HDR makes the movie look so colorful!!" Don't realize it's their oversaturated OLED adding artificial color + the fact that 4k has more bitrate for more color data. Also Dolby Atmos is scam.>Just drill and open up the ceiling to add more speakers!!You can't sell me on such bullshit when the greatest films of all time have a fucking mono soundtrack.

>>217412450Nta but was it on the same screen? I just got a 4k triple laser projector and it's full of all kinds of post processing bullshit to "improve" the image.I will admit, watching a 4k disc with frame interpolation so the actors look like they're moving at 60fps or whatever is a fucking trip.

>>217412596>Nta but was it on the same screen?Yeah, it was an LG CX. I don't remember the movie (it had Batfleck in it), but it was the first time I had seen HDR affect the image like that.
Is there a proper way to set HDR in mpv?
>>217411703>t. europoorHDR looks great on my TCL QD-MiniLED
>>217412367Are you stupid? The smart choice is using a TV as monitor nowadays.
Probably depends on your tvs hdr capabilities
