Remember when Star Trek used to reuse actors throughout the franchise to play minor side characters as a way of fun fan service for the audience? Why don't they do that anymore?
>why don't they ruin my immersion for le funsies :D
>>217418353its bad enough that you're even aware they don't do that anymore, that means you've been watching the new shit to make that observation
Because sometimes it becomes a little distracting, pic related went from playing (basically) God, to being in a mariachi band, to delivering flowers.
>>217418353I used to liked that stuff too. Star Trek used to like it's fans at one point.
>>217418353They reused them because they were good actors and you couldn't tell who they were when they had them in rubber face. 99.99% of people would never have known all the characters Jeffrey Combs played if they weren't told it was him.
>>217418449next gen was the bestit doesn't surplant the original series, but it somehow stands on its own.never liked ds9, felt like a cheap add-on.voyager then the whole crew is obnoxious apart from the borgette
>>217418482What about Enterprise? I found that one to be better than Voyager.
>>217418439That was all the same character though, even when he was stripped of his powers.
>>217418353It was practically a weekly production with a tight schedule. They needed reliable actors and they reused them because the directors then knew what they were getting.
>>217418353Not just Star Trek, but you used to see actors playing roles across all of television. Streaming pretty much has killed that with short seasons and guest stars are nonexistent.
>>217418479>99.9% of people are faceblindRest is correct tho, in murder she wrote the same actors play different people all the time. It was very confusing when first Leslie Nielsen showed up as some random boat captain and then an old friend
>>217418353rather than drawing from a pool of reliable seasoned actors, these minor roles now exist to serve as 'cameos' for whoever the company wants to shill, and to tick boxes.
