Good movie, biggest issue is that the film loses energy the farther into it we go.I understand that there is supposed to be an intentional juxtaposition at the end, showing that while everything that crumbles around us, only the ruthless can make it through and survive. Yet, the tone only allows us to experience the dread, and not partake in our protagonist's catharsis. The tone should have instead allowed us to experience both his catharsis along with the dread for society. This would have been more reflective of how, while we acknowledge the destructive force of our system, we all still partake in and enjoy our successes within the system, no matter how small they are. We tell ourselves, just like every person in the movie, that there is no other choice.
was it autism?
This is my gut placement for the PCW ranking, but I may end up dropping it below Oldboy. Not sure yet.
>>217418839Those that are not listed, I haven't seen yet obviously.
>>217418837Quite literally, yes.
>>217418811When I could tell it was wrapping up I was wishing it was even longer, in a good way. I loved this fucking movie.
>>217418863but they never say so in the movie I don't think
>>217418837Absolutely
>>217418876I do wish we kinda got a scene of him coming back from his first day at the job and having dinner with the family at the end showing how all their lives resumed normally.
>>217418877Not everything needs to be spelled out.
>>217418811Sounds like a revenge thriller mode, while Costa Gavras showed a moral man driven to amorality bc society. The veneer of success requires bloodthirsty serial killers doing the most
>>217418839Sfmv is very socially relevant, less style obsessed
>>217418811>not partake in our protagonist's catharsisBecause there is none.
>>217418839HSA>Sympathy for Mr. Vengeace>Handmaiden>Decision To Leave>No Other Choice>I'm a Cyborg>Oldboy>Thirst>Lady Vengeance
>>217420444There very clearly is catharsis for him. He is excited for his job, he slowly regains confidence in himself over the course of the film, and he kept his family.
>>217420218
>>217420273>>217420474SFMV was the one I was already planning on watching next, so this just gave me more resolve to proceed with that.
