Good movie, biggest issue is that the film loses energy the farther into it we go.I understand that there is supposed to be an intentional juxtaposition at the end, showing that while everything that crumbles around us, only the ruthless can make it through and survive. Yet, the tone only allows us to experience the dread, and not partake in our protagonist's catharsis. The tone should have instead allowed us to experience both his catharsis along with the dread for society. This would have been more reflective of how, while we acknowledge the destructive force of our system, we all still partake in and enjoy our successes within the system, no matter how small they are. We tell ourselves, just like every person in the movie, that there is no other choice.

I once went to a Taco Bell drive through. There was a guy and a girl at the register talking about if a guy needed decent money to have a girlfriend. The girl thought it didn't matter at all. The guy did. They then asked for my input as a I gave them my card for my food. I said 'it depends on the person'. They both took it like I sided with the guy, and the girl said 'You guys are dating the wrong women'. (I swear this happened)This film does seem to act like men do it to themselves, and that men think they need a job to have respect of the family, but really, it is just their immature attitude driving the family away. I don't know if I really agree with this. I think women convince themselves this is true, but I think money issues lead to a lot of relationship problems. Women can willingly blind themselves to the reality of it by blaming it on 'something else' and then after leaving the first dude, they date another guy that coincidentally has money.It is easy for PCW to lecture the middle class that they need to be willing to give up their creature comforts and go live in some cramped apartment, but honestly, I am can't blame someone like Yoo Man-Soo for thinking there is 'no other choice'. Just like these capitalistic overlords that fire everyone to automate their factory. If they didn't do that, they would fall behind the competition and go out of business. Who can truly blame them? No other choice. As living standards continue to drop, I definitely expect people to start becoming more ruthless.
