This was kinda silly, wasn't it? What did /tv/ think of it?
>>217422722I liked it
>>217422722Had one or two good horror scenes, utterly failed at the "elevated horror" aspect. And the attempts at humor were cringe.Modern directors should know where their limits are.
decent but the way they ran took me out, goofy as hell fr
>>217422722Should have been a Peele movie. Heard he fired someone for not getting this movie for him.
>>217422722It felt more like a coen brothers crime caper type film than horror.
>>217422722I feel like it might've been more "realistic" if it was a period piece, set in like the 60s maybe? I understand it's a silly movie about a witch, but man, you need to suspend a lot of disbelief to assume that not a single camera noticed the kids running into the house or that a small town where 30 kids disappeared wouldn't be SWARMING with FBI, news and all sorts of true-crime podcasters just 2 weeks or whatever after they disappeared
>>217422722It's a metaphor for LGTB+ indoctrination in public schools.
>>217422722The part where the gun floats in his dream is retarded.
Explain to me why Josh Brolin didn’t end up like a drooling vegetable like everyone else the witch controls.
>>217422722It was mediocre throughout. It's probably the film whose reception has confused me most in recent memory because I found it so unremarkable it was hard to see where others were coming from when they said it was creepy, or fun, or anything. It was just dull.
>>217422917Gandy wasn't lib-coded enough for that to fit
The uneven number of hotdogs irked me.
>>217422722The ending was great. Instant classic
>>217422928The duration of her control/leeching off her targets correlates with how fucked up they were
>>217422722admiteddly I pretty much never watch horror movies so I don't know what makes a horror good or bad (any recommendations btw?)I thought it was kinda cool in an unexpected way, especially how you see the story from multiple perspective at once all intertwinedlike yeah there's plenty of asspulls but if you watch it just like that, a mystery/thriller movie with horror elements then it kinda worksthe spook is not really that spooky but you could still kinda relate to it if you ever had someting/someone disappear on youit especially reminded me of that movie where some dude was accused of molesting kids or something so the whole enraged NPC mob was making his life a living hell when he literally did nothing wrong to deserve it, which is just kinda what happened to the teacher here
>>217422928It's corelated to duration of control, he was under it for like 5 minutes. Parents were for ages, so they're fucked, kids were for weeks, to it's bad, but possibly revertable.
That old lady was literally asking to be raped
>>217422722The movie copied Antlers which made the main plot reveal a bit lame.It was watchable and the running Mongolian dude had a cool spooky factor. Sicario man had some nice exposition searching for the killer which could have carried the movie harder if it spent more time on that aspect. Its an alright movie if you need something horror-ish and have nothing actually good left to watch.
>>217422722>This was kinda silly, wasn't it?Quite, and I like that.>What did /tv/ think of it?Exceptionally entertaining, fresh, and the only gripe I have is that it has pacing issues, I think it maybe had too many individual arcs (but I wouldn't cut any of them out really).I cherish every movie that makes me laugh out loud with a jumpscare and this film did it, among other things.
>>217422722I didn't, because I never watched it, and don't plan to.
What is it with modern horror movies unable to deliver a good ending? Theres a trend now to either fall flat on its face or go for the joke ending. This and the Substance just had the most bullshit ending imaginable. ok substance was worse but still.
>>217422959Agreed. Definitely felt like a goosebumps episode by the end
>>217423112I dunno if I could physically disagree with you more, i thought the ending was fucking amazing. But I do sort of agree on a lot of movies lacking good endings lately. I just don't see how this is one of them cuz the chase sequence is so funny and cathartic.
>>217423112Jokey endings serve that exact purpose - pulling the audience out of the suspenseful mood. The alternative is either the movie just ends and is boring/unsatisfying or there's just a lingering crushing depression (this can also work in some cases). I liked how Weapons did it, but there's definitely better executions to compare it to - e.g. Drag Me to Hell, The Descent
>>217422942The Asian was a fat top he required more calories
>>217423004She could have gained the psychic energy she needed from sex but no one gave her that option. The kids could have been saved.
>>217422838Yeah, it looked pretty goofy.
>>217422926Dreams usually make retard sense
>>217422722its shit
>>217422722It should've been 90-120 minutes. Modern filmmakers have no idea about pacing.
First half: 8/10Second half: 4/10Total score 6/10
It's good. It's a little too shallow to be great, but I liked the imagery, the characters, and the structure well enough.
>>217422722>Weapons>No weapons or weaponized kidsThe jewess was hot as always, but it was shit.
>>217422722Really good, but not even remotely scary outside of like two short scenes. I went in blind expecting a horror movie, but left with an entertaining dark comedy
>>217422722why did u do it zach?
Barbarian was objectively better
>>217422722I didn’t hate it. Hopefully a sign of things to come for modern horror where the story and pacing don’t get dragged down by an inordinate amount of dumb character drama like a lot of trauma horror flicks from the past decade.
I hate modern movies, but weapons was really good. Adhd riddled james wan fans big mad
I thought it was a comfy small town, classic american horror
