The whole premise got old as fuck. Its just "Some people go to island and escape dinosaurs". That was literally the exact plot for the eighth JP movie released last year

Lost World is definitely better than 3. The drop in quality between the two is almost equal to the drop between 1 and Lost World.

That being said, Spinosaurus is cool in a juvenile way.

It was a great idea for one movie. Not something that really had potential for sequels built in (beyond the idea that another business is trying to cut in on Hammond’s work, which the sequel book went with but it somehow took until film 6 to bring them back into it). They had to actively ignore parts of the first one, such as the lysine contingency, to stretch it out and every film somehow finds more convoluted reasons to drag people to an isolated location where they know there are dinosaurs and that said dinosaurs will eat people. It’s worn completely thin because there’s not much to do. Every now and then they tease the idea of something new like dinosaurs being loose but they don’t do much with it. Also, if we’re talking the original trilogy specifically, Spielberg’s heart clearly wasn’t in two, and the third one had a replaceable workman director, didn’t have a finished script and they ran out of money before they filmed the end so the movie just stops
