A long time ago I had a CK2 campaign where I conquered Yi’ti and founded the Dragon Dynasty with Daemon. I came across a Valeman Slave with the highest tier of combat ability all the way out here whose character ambition was to become a knight. He also had a bunch of the seven virtues. I freed him from slavery, made him a knight, raised him to nobility and made him the first of House Goodser, and landed him on a wealthy trade post on the frontier of the steppe I was conquering from the Jogos’Nhai. Thanks for reading my blog.
>>217428287>his best adapted workI mean duh. The Dunk & Egg novellas are extremely short, and The Hedge Knight especially. The showrunner wouldn’t even have run into the usual problems that plague adaptations, like figuring out what scenes to adapt, how to jump between different storylines, etc. In fact, they had the opposite problem, since they had to write new scenes on top of the original scenes to even get to a 6-episode runtime. Also, George always has a honeymoon phase with these new shows. (Though he is mostly justified in his spat with Condal, since we saw how season 2 turned out and the nonsensical changes implemented).

I recently re-read asoiaf and it's crazy to me that anyone believes anyone but Dany is meant to be Azor Ahai within the story. Just in case the entire blood magic ritual to wake dragons from stone in the first book wasn't obvious enough, George felt the need to later point out that the Valyrian word for "prince" (ala prince that was promised) is not actually male gendered, and has someone refer to her dragons as a "flaming sword hanging above the world" just for the midwit crowd who needs a nudge towards the obvious conclusion. I don't remember things feeling this clear on first read but now I'm shocked there's any controversy at all.
>>217428717AACCKKKK
>>217428717Yeah Dany really is the most certainly Azor Ahai though the last hero's myth fits Bran way better.

>>217428504You can say that he's lucky in the way that he gets to adapt a fully fleshed out Gurm work, something we haven't had since the first half of thrones. Cumdork's work was harder since he had to make entire episodes from cliff notes, but even then he couldn't get those notes right and used the ambiguous nature of f&b for his own personal political agenda like making a branch of pale skinned pale haired dragon people all niggas or whitewash rhaenyra like smuggling laenor to essos instead of killing him angle, constant lightening of her dialogue and making alicent a bumbling retard with no agency. Parker could have done the same and injected some girlboss oc since 99% of the cast of THK is men which wouldn't fly nowadays, but after seeing the akotsk reviews this week come out and call it a sausage fest I let down a sigh of relief and thought "yeah okay this nerd just wants to bring gurm's work into tv"Comfy days are waiting for us lads
>>217428717The prophecy that will come true is Cersei being killed by the Valonqar
>>217428717The point of this and other prophecies in the series are not be "mysterious" to the reader, in my opinion. The point is how individual characters interpret it and how their beliefs lead to actions and consequences that drive the story even though they're wrong. Aegon thinks Azor Ahai will come from his line and literally throws the entire continent into war, gets thousands of people killed, and ends the Targaryen dynasty to steal away Lyanna and make his interpretation of the prophecy happen. He unknowingly creates the circumstances that DO allow the prophecy to be fulfilled, but not like he imagined. This fits with George's version of magic and prophecy being something powerful, dangerous and untameable that rarely works out how you intend.
>>217429037This is another one that's deeply unmysterious since George felt the need to specify that Jaime is slightly younger than her for no other possible reason.
>>217429058>He unknowingly creates the circumstances that DO allow the prophecy to be fulfilled, but not like he imagined. No he was totally aware of how the prophecy had to be fulfilled, and he did it. >>217429058The quote below should be posted before every discussion about how so and so is totally gonna become Azor Ahai/Last Hero/Savior of All Mankind/whatever because muh signs and muh prophecy. GRRM has outright told us nothing good ever comes from it.>“Born amidst salt and smoke, beneath a bleeding star. I know the prophecy." Marwyn turned his head and spat a gob of red phlegm onto the floor. "Not that I would trust it. Gorghan of Old Ghis once wrote that a prophecy is like a treacherous woman. She takes your member in her mouth, and you moan with the pleasure of it and think, how sweet, how fine, how good this is . . . and then her teeth snap shut and your moans turn to screams. That is the nature of prophecy, said Gorghan. Prophecy will bite your prick off every time.”Also, he repeats the warning in ADWD.>"Prophecy is like a half-trained mule," he complained to Jorah Mormont. "It looks as though it might be useful, but the moment you trust in it, it kicks you in the head.”

So he decides to conduct a black magic ritual to revive a dragons egg people theorize he attempted to sacrifice Jon Snows grandmother and unborn father in the ritual and ends with both of them burning alive at summerhall. You think they'll have the balls to adapt the last Dunk & Egg story?
Anyone ever watch this?
>>217430111Yeah I think so
>>217429999>save everyone dying fifteen years before the story even beginsIdk man. Dany seems pretty doomed to madness and tyranny, and Jon’s heroic moment will be killing her, not the walkers, followed by exile and lonely cold death. Bran is in the best position to save the world right now, rhaegar and his brood won’t really have anything to do with it
>>217426566>Tanselle Too Black
>>217430111>canonically endswith 3 out of 7 books being finished lol
>>217426649Finding a competent tailor.
>>217430087It's a recurring theme in ASOIF that heroes make sacrifices for the greater good, and end up getting screwed over and demonized for it, and their sacrifices ultimately being pointless. >Jaimie kills the mad king to save a bunch of peasants from being burned alive.>He ends up demonized for betraying his lord because Westerosi culture hates traitors>In the show Kings Landing ends up burned down anyways so his sacrifice was pointless.
>>217426305>So what are the expectations, is this gonna be good?Gurm says so.
My Irish heritage and family castle marks me as House Wode.
>>217430227>>Jaimie kills the mad king to save a bunch of peasants from being burned alive. Is that why he did it? Or because his father wanted it done?
>>217430183Well, my speculation is that Jon will refuse the throne, because all he wanted to be was a Stark not a Targaryen king, and he will give the throne to his closest kinsman because there’s no other Targaryen pretender. He will go into exile to the only place where he felt he belonged. I sort of thought Bran would become king like in the show and rule as some weirwood king from the God’s Eye, but the iron throne will survive so I think it will play out like this.

>>217430252I would want to be a Hightower
>>217430420I'd be a Tackleberry.
>>217430200The Tragedy of Summerhall is talked about all the time in the books, and it's where Ser Duncan is said to have died while attempting to rescue survivors in The Book of Brothers.
>>217430416
>>217430124I've seen clips.
>>217430469>talked aboutso cool bro, is there a book about it? no? oh well
>>217430009
>>217430124I did, it's alright, pretty basic.
>>217430513It's said in the books and the supporting material that both Dunk and Egg died at Summerhall because Egg went crazy and tried to resurrect a dragon, because some lords just couldn't stand the smallfolk actually having rights. That's how the story of two best friends ends. Dunk manages to die a hero saving lives and being the knight others only wish they could be, while Egg dies disgraced.
>>217430124Guy costumes all look dirt cheap but the women's dont look bad
>>217430124
>>217429221The book is very narration heavy. It's told from Dunks point of view and is full of his inner monologue. It's not easy to adapt that.
>>217430275I don't think George gets enough shit for obviously retconning Jaime's entire character and motivation in Storm when we start to get his POV chapters. His new arc is obviously much better and by where we are in the story he's now one of the best characters, but I think all of that could have still been accomplished without giving shitty benevolent post-hoc justifications for all the evil shit he'd done.
>>217430607yeah yeah, and Martin never misdirects, guess we'll see when the last D&E book never comes out
>>217430742>he's now one of the best charactersRight. Because we should totally hope the incestuous attempted child murderer gets a redemption arc.
>>217430833>people who have done bad things should only be villains forever
>>217430833it's a fictional story, not a moral fable
>>217430833George gave daemon one and he’s 1000x worse. Jaime actually deserves one
>>217430833He's getting one whether you like it or not, the point of contention is whether he should have pretended he was actually secretly a good guy the whole time and was bigly misunderstood or just allowed him to be a narcissistic shithead who is forced by circumstance to be a better person
>>217430863>>217430864There are some things where once you've crossed that line, it doesn't matter how moral you try to be. It doesn't make up for it. Not that George seems to believe that. I mean why not give Ramsay Bolton a redemption arc while we're at it? He only raped a woman with dogs.
>>217430863>everyone is redeemableNo.
>>217430923No one said that. Some people are, some people aren't.
>>217430904Saying he was secretly a good guy because he killed Aerys for a good reason and concealed it (which still broke his oath) doesn't seem accurate, he's still an arrogant unscrupulous twat before starting to get better. Aerys was considered the height of his crimes because of his broken oath, but it's far from the worst thing he did in realty.
>>217430864>not a moral fableThe whole reason George can't finish the story is because he wants the story to have some sort of greater moral that fits with his morals as a boomer and a leftist. He just doesn't have the stomach to write the ending that's consistent with his morals because he knows it would destroy his legacy as a fantasy writer.
>>217430918>I mean why not give Ramsay Bolton a redemption arc while we're at it? He only raped a woman with dogs.I'm sure a good writer could do that. Read the Broken Empire trilogy if you want to see someone try that and judge for yourself, moralfaggotry is boring
>>217430923I feel like the books already subverted this by giving us Cersei chapters in Feast, setting up the expectation that she was also going to be more morally complicated like Jaime was, and then actually revealing that she's significantly worse than anyone would've thought.
>>217430918Jaime literally has a twin whom is doubling and tripling down on being a villain in the same books he's finding his way toward redemption.
>>217430979>The whole reason George can't finish the story is because he wants the story to have some sort of greater moral that fits with his morals as a boomer and a leftistYou made this up in your head
>>217430995>actually, Cersei is stupid and likely insaneGood twist frankly
>>217430979maybe, but more likely he doesn't finish them because fat fuck, what I do find funny is that for all the subtle subaltern speaks themes throughout the series he then decides to do a series on the....magical warrior dragon lord kings, really dodged the cliche there to focus on the biggest guys lol
>>217431037>women are womensuch a good twist you kick yourself for not seeing beforehand
>>217430742From book 1 he has always genuinely loved Tyrion and been kind to Tyrion and his kids, he always had that one redeeming quality even if he was a total dickhead otherwise.
>>217425105there's also the fact the Starks repeatedly marry Blackwood women, not something you'd do with some enemy you hated so much you exiled them
I hope they retcon it so the brute of bracken kills Quentin Blackwood at the tourney of whitewalls instead of some other tourney so we get to see it on screen
>>217431372At this point they should just let /tv/ write the shows.
>>217425060>>217425262>supposedly trying to help against the Others>does nothing but shout random words via a ravenI'm convinced he's either aiding them or is a puppet of the 3 eyed crow which is working for the white walkers. Dude could send coldhands or a child of the forest to explain everything decades ago, instead he jerks off in his tree>>217426885Baratheons, Tullys, and Tyrells only hold their positions due to Targs in the first place so they have little choice. Westerlands and Iron Islands would get gangbanged if they left. Starks and Arryns should have declared independence long ago because they can't be conquered without dragons, only reason they didn't is GRRM being a hack>>217428717this comes from Aemon, the boomer retard who didn't put together Jon's origins despite being around him for over a year. And he was half insane and dying of fever when he started shouting about Dany being the savior. Inbred Targ shits don't matter, Stark blood is needed
>>217428287lollmaohe told dnd the ending of the series. gurm is a mark with no ability to judge character.

>>217431531>It comes from reading the fucking booksyeah, it's Aemon rambling to Sam as he's dying and trying to cope that his family isn't a bunch of inbred fuckups who destroyed the realm for no reason. Targ shits want to justify all their insanity by claiming it was necessary to save the world, meanwhile the Starks already beat the white walkers the first time without dragons or the Wall
>>217431583>Then he'd help restore the Tullys and Starks and bring over Dany
>>217431637Aemon figuring it out is irrelevant, only a tard wouldn't be able to figure it out from her circumstances matching the prophecy perfectly.

Jaime is currently working with Freys to ensure they get their reward for betraying the Starks. He's done absolutely nothing towards redeeming himself
>Ellaria and the Sand Snakes kill Doran while all his guards just stand there >Snakes murder their cousin and absolutely love it>Davos acts like Jon is the most important person in the world despite knowing him for 2 days >Alliser Thorne acts like a retard despite shown being incredibly competent >Brienne ends season 5 abandoning her post to kill Stannis for revenge but saves Sansa anyway making her plotline and character pointless This is the first episode of season 6. >>217423714Why is Egg such a cutie patootie?
Despite our differences, im glad we all agree that Stannis Baratheon is the one TRUE king of westeros and that King Stannis did NOTHING wrong.
>>217431838>King Stannis did NOTHING wrong.Except, ya know, burning his daughter alive.
>>217431583>um, AKSHULLY, you should condemn your children
>>217431838Joffrey was the anointed king so Stannis is just a claimant
>>217431838>Stannis did NOTHING wrongDidn't he attack Kings Landing in the most obvious place instead of stopping a bit down the shore and laying seige from the land and sea?
>>217431752I don't want you to feel like the rest of your post wasn't stupid just because I'm not going to do a post-by-post rebuttal, but condemning his kids to likely terrible death by outing them as bastards of incest when they're absolutely innocent of any wrongdoing themselves is just giga stupid.
>>217431787>>217431852the smartest thing he could do to keep his children and family alive is admit the truth so they don't die trying to keep the throne. But that would require Jaime actually swallowing his pride and going against Cersei>>217431838he spent months jerking off on Dragonstone seething about Ned being named Hand, instead of notifying him about Cersei's kids so they could work together to inform Robert
>>217431859Joffrey was a bastard and an abomination.
>>217431879Stannis only lost because Tywin broke away from Roose and force marched all the way to KL AND was joined by the Reachmen.

>>217431897>but condemning his kids to likely terrible death by outing them as bastards of incestwith Joffrey dead none of the other houses are going to demand the deaths of innocent children used a pawns to claim a throne, they aren't Lannisters after all. Renounce their claim, give wronged families a bunch of gold, support Dany, then hide in Casterly Rock and they would survive it long term. Cersei would lose her head in this deal though, which is why Jaime refuses to go with the actual honorable pathfor all the people claiming Jaime is somehow on a redemption arc, what is a single thing he's actually done to right his wrongs? Sending Brienne on a hopeless task to make himself feel better?
>>217432012Wrong. Stannis lost because he abandoned the true gods of the seven to worship a foreigners fire demon
>>217431637The Daynes defeated the Others. They have a magic sword called Dawn. When the Others were defeated the Long Night ended and brought about the Dawn. Their Knights that wield it are known as the “Sword of the Morning” Also they came from the Great Empire of the Dawn.

>>217432268You’re position is that >He should declare his kids bastards>Hope the new monarch doesn’t kill them to absolutely secure their rule>Bunker down in Casterly Rock>Restore and give a shit ton of gold to revengeful families who want the Lannisters dead>Support the daughter of the guy he murdered who also has three dragons>She shows the Lannisters (who sacked King’s Landing and murdered her family) clemency because Jaime “explains the situation”??
>>217432362And also unless you do ALL of that, he is not a better person than he was.
>>217432211Yeah, thanks.
>>217432009Based anon.
>>217432009Still the anointed king.
>>217432362as opposed to certain death facing young griff, Dany, and the North/Riverlands when they start looking for revenge and to take the throne? Jaime's only option(if he cared about redemption, justice, and all that shit) is to admit his crimes, help the new ruler as much as possible to earn favor, bend over to whatever demands they make, and hope they show mercy. The origin of this was whether Jaime has actually done anything towards redeeming himself, which is now clear that he hasn't because you won't address the point. He hasn't taken a single action that goes against lannister interests
>>217427275>>217427456Are these the main theories about what happened at Summerhall on places like reddit and specialized forums ?
>>217432504I’m not the other anon you were speaking to, my position is that Jaime while seeking redemption is a complicated guy, filled with contradictions like anyone else. He is loyal to his family and doesn’t want harm to come to them. Kevan was stabilising things in King’s Landing, the Boltons and Freys appeared to have a lock on the North/Riverlands, Lannisters were absolutely not facing complete destruction
>>217432082The faith of The Seven is literally the only religion in the entire ASOIF saga that is actually 100% false and bullshit. Which isn't surprising considering GRR Martin grew up in a strict abusive Catholic household before he became an Atheist.
>>217432522NTA but what other explanation do you propose? Egg was clearly frustrated that his reforms were being blocked and there isn’t really another explanation for the fire
>>217432568>>217432568>>217432568
>>217432577>He doesn’t know
>>217432522Essentially, yeah. Egg was smart, and pragmatic. He (probably correctly) came to believe he needed noble/royal blood for a big blood magic sacrifice/ritual to hatch the dormant dragon eggs that they possessed.Again, he was pragmatic, and knew that with dragons the Targaryen’s would be able to continue maintaining control and peace in Westeros. Most theories aren’t that he goes crazy, it’s that he believes the ends justify the means and does what needs to be done for the realm. Only for a literal white knight to ruin it, making the sacrifice meaningless and dooming thousands to wars and famines. Of course the other point of view is that the plebs like Dunk generally probably think dragons are evil and with them around someone is going to torch a bunch of people with them.
>>217431838
>>217432148Those two Dunk and Egg books are the only things we’re getting before he croaks
>>217430607It is said in lore books that Egg tried to resurrect dragons at Summerhall to impose reforms on the lords and that both he and Dunk died in an ensuing mishap. There is nothing about Egg trying to sacrifice his family or Dunk turning against him. That bit seems to be fan theories to I must admit it's coherent about what what we know of dragon eggs
