why did they fly out of the base unmolested when the entire ash fleet along with the colonel was in the air? This was shown 10 seconds before the escape.
>>217426641Why?
>>217426662Because they lost them and the entire base was in disarray. They relied too much on automated defense and Quaritch inviting the Mangkwan in made the entire perimeter permeable, which is why Ardmore was seething at him.
>>217426616Unironically good, even though I generally don't like her or her music.
>>217426616The Weeknd's was much better, this melody doesn't suit Miley.

>>217426616Not terrible, but it's the worst of the 3 end credits songs so far.It has an oddly downbeat and melancholy vibe which might have been better suited for if this movie was more like Empire Strikes Back or Infinity War, where the bad guys win and the heroes will face impossible odds next time- but that didn't happen. It's a triumphant happy ending which the song doesn't reflect

>BOX OFFICE UPDATEFaA is up to 1.32 billies, taking in ~90mil this week globally vs 130mil last week, a drop of ~30%.>FaA vs 28 Years Later: The Bone TempleFaA has beaten Bone Temple on its opening weekend by a couple millie, continuing to be #1 at the box office.>What next?Historically, the falloff becomes less and less at this stage. We can assume an average falloff of below 30% weekly from here on out. At this rate, FaA would surpass 1.5 billies in four more weeks, though it would be unlikely to hit 1.6 billies.
>>217428350It would be really funny if quaritch named the baby some earth name like bobby or billy, completly disregarding varang that want to call it the na'vi equivalant of "bringer of fire and death"

>>217426366Watching A1 now. Haven't watched it since 2009.50 mins in so far. Such a good script. Joy to watch. Also young Neytiri is such a cutie, it's unreal. Also I wish they've kept that toned down color grading in the sequels. Somehow despite being technically more dated aesthetically and cinematic wise it still looks better than the sequels.
>>217423611>"Neytiri" this, "Varang" that...No mention of Kiri? Sure is reddit.
>>217428672>What did she mean by this?"I love to have sex with my husband"
>>217428672I don't get it, he's rubbing it on his beard? What trend is this?
>>217428198>give me some, skyman!>no, give ME some!
>>217428563
>>217428719>Also young Neytiri is such a cutieShe really is, she’s the heart of the movie. If you don’t fall in love with her then the movie just doesn’t hit as well as it should.
>>217428719Avatar 1 is still a fantastic movie. It's a damn shame they made such a campaign to disparage it. Now so many normies won't give it a chance since they've already passively absorbed the opinion that it's similar to other movies, which most movies are since stories are made from archetypes. I love that Cameron is still making them since they still have that spirit of early 00's instead of modern movies.
>I HATE PINKSKINS SO FUCKING MUCHZ-zoe that's not in the script, you're supposed to say "sky demons".
>>217428563Do you think she has bones like this through her pussy lips too?
>>217426366I like papyrus.
It's wild how much the tech has improved between Avatar 1 and Avatar 2 & 3. I mean, the first one still looks amazing, but the sequels look outright like real-life, despite how alien the world is.
>>217429380God I wish I was a pink skin
>>217429380Except notably Varang only knows the blue version of Quaritch and never laid eyes on the pink one
I know they aren't biologically related, but isn't it weird that Kiri and Spider are starting a relationship despite both having the same adoptive parents?
>>217429380Wonder how Neytiri feels about being one of the only 2 Na'vi women to ever marry a pinkskin in the entirety of history lmao
>>217429451>huh ackshtualy
>>217429451just like she wouldn't see any of our own pathetic human meatsack forms if we were in Quaritch's place
cameron filmed three exactly identical movies and they all broke records because he used 3d animation correctly
>>217429380I still think Neytiri holding hatred towards Spider and her children's human features after raising them for 15+ years is bad writing. Hate the ones destroying your home, sure, but the others don't make sense.
>>217429331The whale scene looked like a ps3 game
>>217429470Spider didn't get adopted by the family until very recently/in this movie. For most of his life he's just been like a stray cat, always around. It's especially a stretch to call Neytiri his adoptive mother, all she's done is said "I see you" to him
>>217429539>nearly identical
The Spider sacrifice scene was the most bewildering thing I've seen in a theater. I can't believe they put that in mass appeal slop like this. And Spider goes on like nothing lol. I assume the lack of natural breathing has destroyed his brain
>>217429539>identicalnothis rhetoric has to stop they are all different anyone who says this hasnt see all 3 films at least 3 times
>>217429331In a weird way the hyper realism of 2 and 3 ended up being 'less impressive because it looks so real you assume it's real'. When you realize how much is CGI it is insanely impressive, but in watching it I had almost no suspension of disbelief because my lizard brain just assumed it was real. There were some moments where that suspension fell off and it felt more like a clear video game, but the tech is really good.>>217429545It's to be expected. Half-and-halfs have a struggle with acceptance. There's horror stories of kids who look more white being treated better than their siblings by their parents, this is just the dynamic in reverse. My issue is more that her hatred got resolved really quickly and Jake switched on the kill-spider-question really quickly. But the impression for 2 and 3 up to that point (Changed after that) had really been that spider was 100% a family member to the kids, Jake viewed him more like a friend of the family than his own kid and Neytiri didn't even really acknowledge his existence.>>217429627Frankly as spider I'd have demanded Jake look me in the eye, but Spider is honestly more Na'vi in spirit than Jake is so rider of last shadow says jump on a knife and Spider's goin do it.
>>217429663>anyone who says this hasnt see all 3 films at least 3 times
>>217429772>>217429663>3baby numbers
>>217429694>Spider is honestly more Na'vi in spirit than JakeWish they expanded on that. Also Spider acts like he has a learning disability (or maybe that's the navi in him)
>>217429199My buddies are convinced the whole series is crap and Cameron is a hack. Like I get not likening directors and all, and A1 at the time could be compared to Pocahontas. But dude they are the highest grossing movies of all time and have revolutionized movie affect's. Not to mention the story IS good. The action is wild. Then there’s the >heh heh I’m so contrarian! The HUMANS are actually the good guys hahaha! crowd. Some people just won’t let something be good.
>>217429545>I still think Neytiri holding hatred towards Spider and her children's human features after raising them for 15+ years is bad writingIt's wonderful and very believable writing. Neytiri is is grieving her son's death, its been only a couple of weeks since her first son, the golden child bled to death in her arms while she couldn't do anything but watch. Her father was killed, her sister was killed, now her son, she lost her home, her clan and she's in a foreign land, with people she doesn't really understand. Do you realize how bad her mental state is at the beginning of FaA? She not doing much better than Lo'ak, frankly. And now her husband lashes out on their son and gets drunk, after promising to protect the family. No wonder she's saying things she wouldn't even really think of in another circumstances. And even when she threatens to kill Spider herself, she doesn't actually mean it, because she literally says to Ronal "Who are you to question the will of Eywa?". This is how you write a fundamentally good but flawed character.
>>217429894i cant believe they made the mistake again
>>217429627I will say the one thing that continually took me out of the movie was Spider. The actor just didn’t put very much thought into the role. He looks like he’s just channeling a character from Jackass the whole time. I get he’s supposed to be a “wild native” but he acts like a caveman the whole time when the Navi act more like stoic native Americans. He needed to mirror the Navi style of “wild” more. The whole time he just seemed dumb and didn’t follow any logic. Which is a shame because his character concept is so integral to the plot and pretty interesting.
>>217429894>tfw you worked a 9 hours shift and you hear "We need to talk!"
>>217429199People really need to get the fuck off social media, I'm so tired of everyone parroting something they heard from some source which in turn parroted it from someone else which in turn etc.The infinite Ouroboros of misinformed retards and "I get money to incite fighting in my comments section" shitbags has destroyed any discourse online. People need to go back to experiencing things organically, just see stuff on your own without any voices in your ears telling you what to think, only you.I never got the criticism that it's a basic story told before, sure, it absolutely is, but so is like 99% of stories in existence, the hero's journey is an archetype used for thousands of years, it doesn't make it a bad thing. Hell, I've been so overexposed to media at this point I can normally spot plot twists and turns super early, and I hate it, I miss when such things were still a novelty to me.
>>217429894I think the family drama in general in this series is one of the weaker parts. The dialogue is very heavy handed with family sayings>Sullys stick together!>Sullys never quit! And Jake and his wife bickering like a normal family would in OUR reality. Probably could have cut a lot of those conversations out desu.
>>217429878Try to get them to watch the first movie on their own, without commentary or anything influencing them, no reason to appeal to others. Tell them to just let themselves experience it on their own.>heh heh I’m so contrarian! The HUMANS are actually the good guys hahaha! I do this but because it's funny, same thing with wanting to fuck Varang. It's a joke.
>>217429975>tfw you get home after a long shift and she's on her way out for a "girls night" and the dog left you a "present" on the carpet
>>217430004>And Jake and his wife bickering like a normal family would in OUR realityThis is what grounds them and makes their relationship much more believable
>>217429996Very true. A “derivative” story isn’t an insult. When you have a good formula you don’t have to mess with it. For example >Mission Impossible Every movie is identical but kick ass every time >John Wick, Atomic Blonde, NobodyAll use the same stunt coordinators and combat training to make the cool long shot style fight scenes. All GREAT action, no reason to change. Just because a movie follows a preexisting formula doesn’t make it bad. Maybe lazy, if the movie is bad. But they clearly were not lazy when they made Avatar.
>>217430038Nah I agree with him, it feels too human, too much like lame drama you'd see in a normal movie over here. It's not nearly as far gone, but it reminds me of shit like in the newer God of War games where you have Norse Gods doing shit like clapping their hands and going "BE. BETTER." It's ill fitting for the setting and characters and feels retarded.
>>217430004>dialogue is heavy handed because the kids use two family slogans to reassure the youngest>family drama is weak because... the parents who just lost their child are realistically bickeringI think you're just retarded. What kind of "other reality" argument are you expecting?

>>217429545Oh, boy. I'm just living nearby Russia and hate them all for what they are doing in Ukraine. And i am not even ukrainian. Seemingly logic arguement >hate those who factually do badgrows weak when you only see the faceless mass of enemy and even when you know that someone from that mass isn't bad, you know that many from that mass are bad, and that IS faceless mass, so you can hardly battle an urge to assign that hatred towards all of them as collective whole thing. When the hatred is absolutely justified, like in case of Na'vi, it is absolutely hard to leave some groups (like kids) out. Even when you know your kids aren't to blame, the stigma created by their kind can absolutely sting your mind.Neytiri's hatred is absolutely believable and realistic writing.
Will Spider acknowledge his Navi half sibling?

>>217430083This. It can feel real without mirroring a family sitcom conversation.

>>217430083>it feels too humanAgreed, but it might also have been an inevitable direction for these movies. The original is all about juxtaposing the cold, harsh world that humans have built for themselves compared to the alien beauty of Pandora and the na'vi's exotic lives as seen from the eyes of an outsider. In 2 and 3 Jake has lived with the na'vi for over a decade, and what was once alien has become familiar and "mundane", and so that is how it's presented to the audience as well.
>>217430004>>217430083>>217430161It's a very well done dialogue because it's not 2 aliens talking, it's an alien and a human in an alien's body.

>>217429894>And now her husband lashes out on their son and gets drunk, after promising to protect the family.Look, I love Neytiri, but she was being a terrible mother worse than Jake. He's the ONLY one parenting them. Lo'ak almost got Neteyam and the others killed multiple times, and Jake specifically told her that Neteyam came inches away from death. And STILL she's bitching at Jake like he's being overbearing and wrong trying to get Lo'ak to stick to rules meant to keep them alive. She barely chastises Lo'ak and doesn't force him to actually behave like normal Na'vi parents would do to their kids. Hell, she was way harsher on Jake when she was teaching him. If Jake didn't learn, he would have died and she would have laughed about it. He said "With Neytiri, it's learn fast or die." But then she goes all soft.>just let Lo'ak do whatever he wants. He doesn't have to obey. He can be a skxawng. It's just how he is! It'll always turn out alright!>oh noes, our son is dead! Jake, you faggot, why did you let this happen?!

>>217430347Yeah I wasn’t a huge fan of moody wife the whole time. I get she’s been through a lot, but that would make her blood thirsty not a bitch to her family. I thought once she had that scene where she threw off the cloak to defend the air ship she would move past all the stubborn bickering and family hate. But no, it went on for another hour

Sam Worthington's voice is so distracting. He sounds so "Hollywood" for a guy who's been living with space injuns for a decade. And Ripley's old lady voice in her younger self was ridiculous, they could have at least filtered it a little to sound younger
>>217430413this is what mental illness looks like
>>217430347>He's the ONLY one parenting them. He's not parenting them, he's making their issues worse. Neteyam and especially Lo'ak needed a father, not a military commander who'd beat them into submission. Especially Lo'ak who was a walking inferiority complex in the second movie. Neytiri's fault lies in doing nothing about it being too passive, but Jake is the one who's thinking that tough love approach can work. Spoilers: it rarelydoes
>>217430426I don' think he's mentally ill, he wouldn't have been able to direct successful movies otherwise

It must have really triggered Cameron's autism that the sonar pulses barely did anything to the water Na'vi or whales aside from shake them around and stun them for a second. Those sonar pulses from close ranger should have killed them. They'd certainly suffer permanently deafness, eyes and internal organ damage. They act like they're invincible to human weapons inside the water, but Sonar would work better than bullets ever would

>>217431658NTA but something cool with FoP is that the game is not overly long if you focus on the main quest. Unlike Assassin's Creed. Once you get tired of the boring side content, you can progress quick fast. The biggest appeal is obviously the Avatar IP, and if the game follows some of Ubisoft's boring game design, the devs built a world that they seem to genuinely like. The starting jungle is honestly great to explore, every plant moves around you, it's exotic and colorful like the first movie and the moment you get your own Ikran is genuinely awesome, even for someone like me that is not the biggest fan in the first place.I also found it to be a very relaxing game.I got the special edition for 20 bucks by the way. Biblical Imaginery-"Eywa" = "Yahweh", a simple reversal of the abrahmic sky daddy god.-The character name "Grace Augustine" is fully loaded with christianity. "Grace" is a specific theological state where you get right with god. Augustine was a theologian and saint.-In the third movie, one of the Ash people pokes Quaritch in his obliques with a spear, drawing a bit of blood. This is like the Lance of Longinus for Evangelion fans, or: the holy spear.-Varang's tight little horizontal binder is sometimes worn with a vertical stripe of paint or paints, clearly forming a cross.-The third film specifically makes general appeals to faith and belief, especially the opening argument between Jake and Ney (and Jake really ought to know better, since he lived the proof of his god at the climax of the first film).-In the first film, when the much larger Neytiri cradles Jake's weak human body, this pose is taken directly from the Pieta (mary cradles the dead jesus). The Michelangelo sculpture is the best known example, but it's a genre thing with other instances.-"Tulkun". The sound of this word is suspiciously close to the jewish theological concept of "tikkun". In rough strokes, the jewish/kabbalastic notion of tikkun is: the world is broken and wrong, and various troublesome things in the world (qlippoth) obstruct our clear view of reality. Therefore, we should endeavor to repair the broken world that we inhabit.-And then of course, the Na'vi are waging jihad against the occupying humans.-Jake is short for Jacob-Jacob took his brother Esau's inheritance by wearing goatskins on his arms so his father would think he was Esau-Jake literally wears his brother's Avatar and takes his place in the program-Jake Sully, the father of the tribe, taking his son Spyder out to kill him before changing his mind by a revelationYou can stretch it any way you like, but the abrahamist stuff is a major informer.

Okay so what is /afag/'s gripe with TWOW? What went so wrong?
A 20mm rifle is still insane, that's a fuck load of power. They actually exist, but damn, imagining shooting something like that makes my shoulder hurt. And I've shot high powered hunting rifles, 30/06, and all of that.

>>21743331320mm = heaviest anti-material rifles, and 20mm is where guns started being referred to as cannons (e.g. machine gun vs autocannon).

>>217433624>I feel like I was denied CRITICAL need to know information!
>>217432897I was thinking of the same thing. Basically remove Tommy from the story. And it's just Jake in Venezuela as a soldier and getting shot in the spine then getting hired by RDA as an experiment in puppeteering an Avatar: whether a paraplegic can control the legs of an Avatar. Also Earth should be self sufficient, filthy rich and non of that "dying planet" concept. Also Unobtanium should be found on other planets too. Why? Because this allows a plausible reason why an Earth corporation would not mind Pandora colonizers getting kicked out of the planet. Because to them it's like a shoplifter taking a candy bar from the store.
>>217432897It seems Cameron is going to great lengths not to show too much of Earth and human activity. If we see them suffering on a hive world and colonist suffering extreme rationing in the colony, then we will have sympathy for them.
>>217432897>>217433745>Earth isn't failing it's actually thriving the RDA are just greedy megacorp bastardswould've been a waaayy better backstory. Especially since Cameron wants us to see them as cartoonishly evil. Would also help balance out the "why doesn't humanity just glass the Na'vi" argument. Because humanity doesn't need pandora or it's resources to survive. So there would be a greater moral outcry to the actions of the RDA.

There are no other habitable star systems anywhere close by. It still takes minimum six years to get to Pandora and they can only take a small amount. The overcrowded billions still on Earth are fucked and continue to fuck the planet. Their fancy future tech doesn't amount to much when they screwed the atmosphere and extincted the animal and plant life. Jake tells Eywa that there's no green left on Earth and the things he shows Eywa from his mind is what causes Eywa to fight back against the invading consuming species.

The RDA has corporate ads recruiting for Pandora. The average person definitely knows.

>Joshua Izzo clarified that deceased people within Eywa are simply memory backups of their consciousness, and should not necessarily be interpreted as the true consciousness or true spirit of the deceased after death, even pointing out that people would need to remind the deceased that they have died every time they connect: "It is a static backup. So imagine, it's not necessarily like time machine, it's more like an archive, that can't be changed. Here's the thing. You can go into the Eywa net. You can connect to one of the I/O ports all over Pandora, one of the Trees of Souls, the Tree of Voices, the Spirit Tree, whatever. That allows you to go into those particular memories that you yourself backup. So, if I'm going into my own memory that I've backed up, and I want to access that, I can interact with, and have a conversation with my grandfather from thirty-five years ago. You can have that conversation. And he can say, How are you doing? What's happening out there? I can tell him right now. I'm doing fine. Mom passed away. You know, there was, you know, there's a war. And he might be like, Oh my gosh, what I can't believe it. Are you okay? And then that version, in that memory of that moment, could react. But the minute that I disconnect, that never happened. If I go if I immediately reconnect and go back to that exact same moment, that exact same memory, that conversation, never happened. He will immediately be that first version that you first met. So if you walk into, like you know, Groundhog Day, he'd be like Josh, ten minutes later, we could be crying together. If I disconnect and connect again, he, "Josh!", nothing changes. It's static. It's a static moment in time, but you are able to interact. And that's why you're able to talk to the ancestors, gain wisdom of... somehow reread, be a part of that world again. But you can't ever change any of it. It lives forever in those memory moments."
>>217433883Presumably:1) Pandora is not going to be a colony for the teeming masses of humanity. If they can resolve the breathing issue then Pandora is going to become a luxury colony for the rich and connected while the rest of us suffer. The equivalent of Thiel et al buying apocalypse bunkers in New Zealand because they figure if the US/Canada/Europe goes to shit they can just run off and hide in paradise.2) Tied to that, colonies on mars and the like are likely bubble colonies or underground colonies. Livable, even pleasantly so, but sterile and lacking the conspicuous consumption of a proper luxurious existence. Ze pod and ze processed food is for us, not for richy rich. Also, re-reading avatar wiki and seeing Spider's actor said 4 is supposed to be dark and crazy or something like that makes me think 4 will be emperor's strike back-y. Like the na'vi actually lose and are on the backfoot, so Neytiri (and Kiri presumably) going to Earth is going to be a hail mary desperate move (save earth and make the people rise up against the RDA) rather than something done out of sympathy. >>217433462I'd say Kiri but it is 100% going to end in tragedy. The other ones might not.>>217434241I can see why it might upset some people, but it doesn't really bother me. But I'm also not phased by the 'coin flip' in Soma because I fully understood clone =/= me.
>>217433845Humanity doesn't glass the Na'vi because the survival of Earth's states isn't threatened by them. If the RDA talk of needing to colonize Pandora to save humanity was true, it would entail selling land and tickets to super-rich individuals, not any state-backed policy that would motivate Earth's militaries to intervene directly. The RDA may be extremely powerful, but they are still not a nation, and not an international organization representing humanity's interests, but a corporation that seeks profit, and needs to sell amrita to sustain its operations.

>>217433964the opening monologue of A1 has Jake say something like “you always hear about Pandora growing up, but you never expect to actually go there.” then at one point a character (Grace?) holds up a book written on Earth about the Navi. Pandora isn’t a secret.>rda going to jupiteranon if Pandora was orbiting Jupiter then Humanity would have been there by the 1970s or 1990s at the latest, not the 22nd century
>>217435136Pandora IS a moon but is absolutely not on Jupiter. He might be thinking of Interstellar. I think the wormhole was near Jupiter.
>>217434159Yes it was.>Killing the indigenous looks bad, but there's one thing shareholders hate more than bad press -- and that's a bad quarterly statement.
>>217434672Not him??, but I do have a thing for white, nerdy corporate types.
the creator of the avatar program was never mentioned in the first movie, nor was there any signs of protest over ityou guys are insane
>>217433845Exactly. And even if RDA can't mine, it's not that hard to think of a reason for them to stay in their orbital space station. Like for example: Pandora is a sort of node in a transport hub to other planets with more resources. It's just that Pandora has some minerals that are essential to sustain human colony in that region. Kinda like how Taiwan was to the Portuguese or the Philippines to Spain. Both are just ports and hub of commerce. Also another good reason why humans won't nuke Pandora from orbit is because they want to study the biological network which is similar to a computer. Maybe humans are moving from silicon based computers to bio-computers and Eywa neural network is a good sample for them. Or maybe psychedelic compounds only found on Pandora are capable of unlocking the next step to human mind development or some psychonaut shit that CIA used to do IRL. This is why I was disappointed with Way of Water because the storytelling was too reductive. In fact I was hoping that the 2nd sequel was more low key and focus more on tribal conflict and Sully family being half-humans.
>>217426616literally walked out as soon as I heard it
>>217435389It's still canon. Regardless, here's a timestamp from the first movie where bad PR from killing Na'vi is explicitly mentioned.https://youtu.be/tMDneicBizU?t=29
there are two things I don't understand:1. In TWoW, the reason for Jake to flee to the water tribe seems really flimsy. It doesn't really protect his own people, since if the RDA discovers their home then Quaritch is likely to target them even though Jake isn't actively living there in order to draw him out. It also seems callous, like he's just passing on the threat to the water tribe. Why did he think they would somehow be better protected out there?2. Jake showing Eywa his memories of Earth. Whenever someone connects to a spirit tree, they upload all of their memories to Eywa, which is something he has done many times at this point. Shouldn't she already HAVE his memories?
>>217434404I felt it implies exactly that tbqh, that the people in them were just static memories.
Guys do you think trees are the arms of mother earth that reach the sky and herself? Is earth her body or her excrement that gives us energy? Is Eywa with us? How do we connect with her?
>>217436287she'll only begin speaking to you if you bring her a hundred skulls belonging to Brazilian ranchers, Chinese fishermen or Malaysian palm oil plantation owners
>TWoW ends with both Jake and Neytiri smiling at the memory of Neteyam and Jake with a determined and resolved look on his face, swearing to make a stand>in F&A they are both depressed and miserable, none of that fire and resolve is present
>>217433568Agree with a few of these.- I agree with this, one of the things i wanted more out of with WotW was also the beginning. I felt the intro, before RDA returns and Quaritch is woken up, should have been longer and felt a bit rushed.- It takes up a good chunk of the film, but i think this is the kind of material love about these movies the most so understand why there is so much of it.- Dont really have any feelings about this, movie's long enough that it wasn't an issue for me- This is more due to the change in setting really- No issue with this- Agreed, a few more should have survived for the final battle in FaA- I have no doubt there are scenes that show what happened, but cut in editing to focus on Sullys vs Quaritch (much like how theres is tons of cut from the first movies final battle showing other viewpoints)- Id have loved a longer extended cut but think the length was already pushing it for theatrical. My compromise would be trimming 10 minutes elsewhere in the movie to extend the intro.
>>217436565Yeah, real emotions work like that.
>>217431708I know it would've made for a boring zero conflict movie that would make no money and get bad reviews, but I would've loved a full length movie that just encapsulates that decade+ period between 1 and 2 where Jake got to live with Neytiri raising their children in paradise. Just bask in the splendor of peace of Pandora before the sky people return.
