Is film school a meme?
Its as relevant as a degree in podcasts
Just go to films
>>217428848Theres an old interview with Orson Wells and he says theres not really much to being a director and he thinks anyone could become one if they took like a week long course of the technical side of it.
>>217428848You can learn all the basics from watching making of documentaries and listening to commentary tracks. Film school is basically to network and spend the day with a room full of cunts who hate movies and want to get famous on Tiktok.
>>217428848>Formal education yields the most benefit for the average intellect, as the morons are beyond help and the geniuses will simply help themselves
>>217428848all types school are memes
>>217428997truth nuke
>>217428848This just reeks of white privileged.
>>217428997Sour gabes How’s that labor job treating you?Is your shoulder hurting you today or are you using your liver half life to kill the pain?
>>217428848Almost all of that are artistic fields to be fair OP. It does show The Film Degree is kinda trash. Most people in Film go to community colleges, Full Sail or USC if they are rich to do things like cinematography or PA. its a technical degree. If you want to do directing with lowest effort, go do Drama/Writing than MFA. You'll possibly end up in stage like Broadway.
>>217428848 notice how they're all 50+ years old, back when there was career mobility tied to merit
it seems retarded to me. Like probably 10,000 people get film degrees in a given year in America, so that's like 300,000 in the workforce overall. And there are maybe 100 directors in total in the country and the cope roles for everyone else are also very competitive. I don't get why not just like write a book or make a video game or make a painting or any of the other creatives things that can be done alone for free rather than take such a retarded gamble

Guess what, it was networking. All of those are lies. >Steven Spielberg claims he used to sneak onto the lot at 16 in suits until he got a job.>In real life his dad's friend, Chuck Silvers, assistant to the editorial supervisor for Universal TV, arranged for Steven to be shown around, spend a weekend there, kept in correspondence with him and then worked as his assistant for a while.Every single rags to riches tale is bullshit, it was actually either middle class or higher foundations = success, networking, or both. But for some reason dumb plebs post this shit like, anyone can magically find success.
>I didn’t go to film school I went to films :^)
>>217428848Directing big movie is a job that hundred thousands of people want but very few people can actually get. You need connections more than a film school degree to get the job but that doesn't mean that all film schools are bad.
>>217429241Yeah especially Tim Burton. I don't know what Disney was thinking with letting animators run the asylum in the 00s, they made a documentary called Dream On Silly Dreamer where they tried to blame accountants and marketing people for taking over the writer roles and ending the Disney Renaissance, and then you look at their 00s writers and they're all animation grads instead of the Broadway writers they had in the 90s.
>>217428848It's only useful for networking but that is if you're not an autist, doesn't guarantee anything either way and the shit you learn you probably already know if you're into movies
>>217429625This needs to be shouted from the rooftops
>>217429778>>217428884I best most grade never even read the book.https://store.ascmag.com/products/ac-manual-10th-ed-2-volume-paperback?srsltid=AfmBOoqB9mpw77NQtWRAH2kRM_9JlvkbBPTurtijZULApQ4OYFqEvOis
School is not necessary for ability or aptitude. Most people need structure, but you can learn anything without attending a school.
>>217428997School is for connections and nothing else
