I just started watching the 11th season and I have no idea what kind of show I'm watching anymore. Why is this shit an action movie all the sudden? Mulder used to get his ass kicked in the original show. What the fuck happened to this show?
Tou aren't wrong, OP. Upon rewatches, I typically stop at the first movie and then watch some individual episodes from later seasons.
i've seen x-files 1-9 a few times, and i recently rewatched it and also watched 10-11 for the first timei knew what i was getting into, and 10 was a hard watch, but i remember liking a few of the episodes of 11. some almost felt they could have been in the late original run, with a few changes.
>>217429286Wild guess is that by then David was able to exert a good bit of influence on the scripts and didn't want to get beat up. Patrick Stewart did the same thing in later seasons of TNG and the movies where he wanted to be more of an action star than a stuffy diplomat.

Even the original was all over the place. They wanted to end it around season 5 and turn it into a movie franchise then the network stepped in because it they decided it was too much of a cash cow then David Duchovny started acting like a diva because he decided he didn't want to travel to where the show was being shot and didn't want to play anymore. It's no surprise that 5 was the last consistently good season. I was a little kid when season 1 aired and used to watch it with my grandpa, and followed the entire show in the following years. If I was going to watch it again I'd probably stop at the movie after s5.
