its crazy that Dune ripped this off in high fantasy setting and is somehow less kino than the actual thing

It's an early self-insert wish-fulfillment story. The viewer can imagine he is an educated westerner who travels to a savage land and teaches the savage locals western knowledge and wisdom.

Besides being beautifully shot with great acting, the story of a competent and brave man being gradually consumed by his environment is extremely compelling.

>The opposite happens. The arabs teach the white man not the other way around.
oh, I thought I saw a movie where the tribal savages who killed each other for drinking from the wrong well were convinced by the white man to stick together against a common enemy
only to fall back into savagery at the end after the white man gave them independence

hah hah my mistake
>>
>>217435044
Nta, but I think the movie portrays a lot of the Arabs savagery as a natural product of their harsh environment. They have to be protective of things like their wells because there is so little water. Beyond that, Lawrence gradually becomes more Arab as the movie goes on, even making an illogical decision to attack a fleeing convoy at the end in the name of revenge. That being said, the Arabs do have issues and are clearly unable to organize into a proper government, hence their failure to hold Damascus
>>
>>217435122
>product of muh environment
arab savages are no different than native american savages who would scalp each other over petty bullshit despite being in a lush environment

the difference is white people took over the land here and turned it into a prosperous country

while arabs were left to their savagery and developed a whole region that breeds terrorism and enacts backwards ass policies like literal slavery
and you can't blame their environment anymore when they have access to practically unlimited oil money which has only been siphoned into pure degeneracy

or look south of the border where the savages were given a language and religion by the Spanish then left alone, only to breed drug cartels who literally rip each other's faces off and film it for enjoyment

savages all over the world can't simply be taught to stop savaging, it's in their blood

no matter what he did he couldn't get arabs to stop attacking one another over stupid bullshit making it easier for jews to own their ass for all time
>>

I’m not interested in discussing real-life Arab politics. I’m saying that the movie portrayed the Arabs savagery as largely environmental, and several Arabs like the Prince were clearly very intelligent. I admit that the movie shows how inter-tribal conflicts drag the Arabs down and stop them from properly unifying, but I don’t think the moral is meant to be white-supremacist in nature. If anything, the fact that Lawrence, a British man, becomes as Arab as anyone else, goes against that argument.
>>
>>217435529
>I’m saying that the movie portrayed the Arabs savagery as largely environmental
fair enough
> I don’t think the moral is meant to be white-supremacist in nature
I wouldn't say it's a movie that's meant to promote racism
but in telling a decently accurate turn of events it's hard to ignore the reality
>Lawrence, a British man, becomes as Arab as anyone else
I wouldn't say the movies really portrays that, it always made it seem like deep down Lawrence felt out of place there, especially after the Turkish prison or his furstration when the Arabs couldn't come to the table and develop a proper society at the end

ultimately he found himself back in Britain joyriding his motorcycle through the countryside
>>
>>217430058
a white male protagonist faces challenges in a harsh environment with unfamiliar people
>>
>>217432439
>Did you even watch it? The opposite happens. The arabs teach the white man not the other way around.
They don't watch the movies.
They just have stock criticisms to levie at a movie that meets certain criteria
White man in a foreign land? Must be white savior.

They also understood depth of field. A modern film would have done this scene at f2.8 or more and focused only on the people at the forefront. Modern cinematographers are like students that just got their first f1.4 lens and decide every scene needs extreme DoF, it pisses me off.
