Most overrated Scorsese flick, by a lot. It's only saving grace is that the third hour is good. The first two hours are garbage.
>>217432988it's for people who want to feel slightly smart for not choosing goodfellas
>>217432988Casino is way better than Wolf of Wall Street.
>back then it was easy>*hey arnold theme plays*>we could do crimes and they weren't even illegal
It's no Kundun, that's for sure.
>>217432988>The aviator exists >Kotfm existsHow are you mad at Casino when these pieces of shit were made
>>217433057those aren't overrated. nobody gives a fuck about them
>>217432988>dude what if I just made goodfellas again but it's in Vegas and also it's way less memorable lol
>>217433057Scorsese spent way too much time with Dicaprio
>>217432988Agreed. Surprisingly it wasn't as hard to re-watch as I thought it would be but Casino felt like a shittier version of Goodfellas and Sharon Stone's character was extremely unpleasant to watch, and that plotline is half the movie.

>>217433031lmao, no, Casino plays like a less entertaining Wolf of Wall StreetI like Casino, but also found it overrated.
>>217432988i think sharon stone's performance in this movie is the most realistic woman i've ever seen on film
The Departed was fucking stupid and fairly well receivedIt was worse than this oneThis one would have been almost kino if sharon stone hadn't been in it
>>217433438
A lot of extraneous scenes that should have been cut, like the casino manager's tv show.
>>217432988It’s not bad but I can’t watch it without thinking I should be watching Goodfellas instead
>>217432988the entire first hour is like the "IM ACTING!!" meme but for directing and editingjust a mish mash of unconnected scenes with forced needle drops every 2 minutes. absolute slop. plays like a film student project not a movie by a director decades into a successful career.
Scorsese's 2nd best flick after Taxi Driver. Everything behind those two is miles behind
>>217432988>stands in your path
>>217432988>>217433012>>217433089>>217433182>>217433673Goodfellas walked to Casino could run
>>217435034The Irishman and Wolf are both awful because they're based solely on the accounts of obvious liars, and Scorcese 100% believes them. Goodfellas works because he had the feds who worked the case also onboard as advisors.
>>217433539Everything about that actually happened. The gaming commission suspended his license so out of pure spite he created a tv show where he did nothing but talk shit about the state regulators, filmed at the very casino where he was banned from working.
>>217435123Anon, if you need a fed spook to spoon feed you a heavy handed message about how crime doesn’t pay in order to understand that bad guy in movie is bad, that’s your issue not Marty’s.
>>217435034I don't fucking get why this board wastes its time whining about actually great movies like Casino when we're in a drought of good movies nowadays and formerly good directors are making shit like this. Learn to fucking appreciate what you're given. If Casino came out nowadays everyone would see it as a masterpiece because it's so much better than anything else being done, even by Scorsese
>>217435715>a heavy handed message about how crime doesn’t payThat wasn't the message of Goodfellas. It's implicit in the title.
>>217435155https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=59hKbRJkpHY
>>217432988>>217433012>>217433089>>217433358>>217435770I watched GoodFellas and Casino back to back a few weeks back and they are 100% thematically different films. Just the style, the characters, the whole plot is completely disconnected from GoodFellas. GoodFellas is about Henry and his life, while Scorcese explicitly stated Casino is about Vegas. That's why the first hour is an entertaining almost montage of Vegas and how it was run. GoodFellas is a lot more personal than Casino. Casino is about the big. The big city, the big people. Both are great films.
>>217432988This is the young Irishman I was telling you about
>>217435123He may be a liar but Buffalino was a major player and was probably somewhat involved. I met him and like most of those guys he did like to brag a bit and exaggerate.
>>217432988Why were all the italian assassins at the end geriatric and could barely run after their targets?
>>217436169Because they were actual members of the Hole in the Wall gang.
>>217432988If he gets an editor who knows how to slap him around he might become a good filmmaker.
It's Goodfellas....2.
You dumb moron, you dumb moron!
Casino is probably a better made movie than Goodfellas from a technical standpoint, but Goodfellas has that comfy factor while Casino is just brutal from start to finish you jew muddah fuckah you
What are some good gambling/Vegas movies aside from Casino? Scorsese really captured the whole feel of it very well
>>217437202Hard Eight.
>>217433012Are they horses?!
>>217433069Unfathomably based.
would you consider this good CGI /tv/?
>>217436037You're objectively correct.Micro vs Macro.
>>217435715Goodfellas is probably his only movie where crime actually does pay entirely. In real life it wasn't as good for Henry, but in the movie he gets everything he wanted, then gets witness protection and lives absolutely fine forever lol. Crime absolutely pays, or at least is completely neutral for Henry and his family.
>>217437672that is the point of the movie yes, how wedded the crime and materialism of the mob is to american culture
>>217437702yeah so assuming you're who I was replying to, why on earth would other Anon over there be talking about anything to do with "heavy handed" "crime doesn't pay" narratives praising goodfellas over Irishman or Wolf of Wall Street? It's not a crime doesn't pay narrative. In fact, only really Wolf of Wall Street is, and even then, Jordan Belfort is on top again because of that movie... lol. Stay pseudy-dudey.
>>217437672>and lives absolutely fine foreverUm, excuse me, he couldn't get real spaghetti. Only egg noodles and ketchup. That's pure torture and misery
>>217437791I would disagree, Wolf of Wall Street is also about how crime does pay in America, but it portrays it in such a glorified way that it loses the kind of humanism that Goodfellas has
