1 and 2 are masterpieces but what’s /tv/‘s opinion of the rest of the Terminator franchise? I’ve never heard one person talk highly about any of the Terminator films after Judgement day. Why doesn’t James Cameron want to invest any time, money or creativity himself on reinvigorating not only the Terminator franchise but Alien as well? IMO, I feel as though Cameron has wasted so many years of his career squandering much of his creative potential on Avatar.
>>217434616Terminator is dead since T2. Leave it alone already
Terminator 3 is awesome, and the greatest spite sequel of all time -- crafted in a feverish haze where the writers were weeks away from being fired, engineered to shit all over Terminator 2 and its fanbase. It's a miracle that the film's venom towards Terminator 2 and "No fate" survived all the studio interference. The essence of great art is being a true hater. Nobody who liked Terminator 2 was ever going to make a worthy sequel. They needed venom, they needed quiet, decade-long brooding resentment.Everything after Terminator 3 is a cash grab that either has nothing to say (Genisys, Dark Fate) or had its point surgically removed in rewrites and reshoots (Salvation).
1 good2 great3 ok but only in light of what came after4 could have been good but it just wasn't5 shit6 shit
>>217434616I personally liked Salvation. Kinda stupid and the plot itself is sort of weird but it is a good world to explore.

for me it's Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
>>217434616>and 2
>>217437685Season 2 was almost single-handedly ruined by Shirley Manson doing an impression of a retard and calling it a performance. I'll never understand why they cast her.
>>217434616Because the largest and least critical moviegoing audience is small children. George Lucas figured it out when he retained the merch rights to Star Wars and found out the kids wanted all the toys, but Empire frightened them, and he intervened in Return of the Jedi and we got teddy bears. Marvel, Taylor Swift... Cameron had plenty of hits for adult audiences, but when he took his gamble on a kids series with Avatar, shoved a basic film 101 plot outline together with recycled details that'd been done hundreds of times before and it didn't matter, kids didn't know any better, had to see the blue alien magic movie and were happy when the good guys won. All the cool kids saw it, their friends saw it, and no one wanted to be the dork who had not seen it at school after the break. He can crank out endless sequels and they can all be JJ Abrams-style remakes of the original for all kids care, they're too young and dumb to know the difference or care, they'll keep hoovering up tickets as long as he keeps making them, and be replaced by more just like them. If you want to make money, sell to kids.
T3 has this weird doom and gloom vibe I like. I don't think it's as good as the other two that are a bit more uplifting, but it's not that bad either. You could think that it sucks that all they did before didn't matter, but the only way for the story to happen is that John indeed became their leader and nothing actually changed, just was delayed.
>>217434616That pic is AI generatedThat is not what either of them looked like in 2023
>>217434616>Why doesn’t James Cameron want to invest any time, money or creativity himself on reinvigorating not only the Terminator franchise but Alien as well?Because he's a one-trick pony that's only ever had one idea/style that he can maybe stretch into 2 movies (at best). You can tell he's now run into that same creative roadblock with Avatar 3. Alien was also never his baby.
