westworld, whatever happened there?

one of the biggest messes in hbo history?
>>
It had a strong start but basically became a different show.
>>
greedy producer niggas think their show can sustain on hype and prior acclaim and phone in the rest, many many such cases. There is no more passion
>>
> s1
one of the greatest 1st seasons of all time
> s2
writers got high on their own farts and tried to outsmart their audience because they didn't like them guessing the plots and fucked it all up
> s3
complete meandering shit
> s4
a slight return to form and penultimate going back to the park for final season
> s5
nothing because zaslav canceled it. then nolan and joy went to make fallout and make millions and zaslav decides to have them come back to HBO and work on a different show with jake g that never gets made
>>

The story seemed finished after the first season, at least in regards to the initial premise.
>>
>>217437568
It happens with these sci-fi shows a lot, stuff like Orphan Black and V both had similar fates with a strong first season that people were crazy about and then it became forgotten with lackluster and filler filled second seasons.
>>
>>217437568
Season 1 is an excellent self-contained story, the rest is trash.

I only watched to season 3, but reading about S4
>Charlotte to manage a largely docile humanity, with the hosts now controlling and managing their lives through carefully detailed and manufactured "storylines", which are transmitted directly to the minds and lives of humans through a series of radio-sonic transmission "tones" in organized metropolitan areas across the world. Humans now act out the storylines set by hosts.
lol. They did an unironic picrel

s02e01 to s02e04 were as good as season 1 second half then it takes a massive nosedive and never recover
>>
>>217437568
It's crazy how they completely removed this series from Max and yet there's still so many shitty series on there. It's like they know how badly they fucked up.
>>
Sophomore slump. Happens to many shows.
>>
>>217437568
>whatever happened there?
It was always just a vehicle by which they could offload the antagonistic diversity politics i.e. the people making the show never ever gave a shit about the concept much less about writing a good story, only heckin feminism, anti-male, anti-white narratives, and peppering in as many “minorities” as possible. Like every other fucking show of this awful moment, it was just propaganda.

Note how most of these shows have great standalone first seasons.
This is an era of miniseries, not longform shows. Some few can pull off multiple seasons of this format, but it's clear that most can't. Westworld should've been a one and done. In fact people will only ever watch season 1 if they bother to remember this show at all.

S1 was kino. Then they tried to make it some female power fantasy and a statement on the struggles of women in society or something similarly gay. I'm not sure if it was always intended as a trojan horse or if someone near the top took advantage and undermined it.
I cannot express enough how incompetent writers are nowadays. They literally think something isn't art unless it's a critique of modern society when all REAL art is an examination of the human condition as a whole. S1 was a huge success because it reflected on timeless themes of revenge, greed, narcissism, hedonism, etc. then the other seasons failed because they focused on topical and ridiculous themes like how women are strong and need to back their oppression.
>>
>>217437875
No they were not, fucking retard
>>
>>217437568
S1 was great but by the final ep of that season I knew there was nowhere to go but down and the Maeve Millay character was already starting to grate on me, and I never bothered with anything after that

Sometimes one has to do that with some of these series

>writers got high on their own farts and tried to outsmart their audience because they didn't like them guessing the plots and fucked it all up
Why is this so common? Is it some kind of writer’s taboo to have a predictable plot?
>>

>s4 slight return to form
Was it? Season three was so shit I honestly couple not muster the enthusiasm for more than half an episode of the fourth season...
>>
>>217437568
They really had story only for 1 season but tried to make 3 more entirely out of le science/futurism/tech current thing hype
>>
I can't recall a show drop off in quality from season 1 to subsequent seasons quite like Westworld did.
>>
So when you go to westworld to have a bit of a rape, are the cyborg girls always programmed to be scared, fight back slightly but ultimately lose?
Also are there other westworlds for different timelines like if you wanted to have a bit of a rape in ancient egypt, greece, medieval france, or nazi germany, say, you wanted to larp schinders list but with a bit more rape, would there be a westworld for that?

Westworld in the original movies had a Roman World, West World and Medieval World. In the original movies the people running the park would see the guests actions and then program them to react properly. One guy wanted to fuck the Queen of Medieval World, then he wanted to fuck Daphne the big titted robot, so they made it happen. This would imply they would know what you want and would cater the experience to you.

And of course, the tv show had extensive profiles and psychological insights into the guests. They started with the host guest on the train, then questionaires, and knew what they liked and what intensity level to offer it at so they didn't have a heart attack. The Tv show introduced Rajworld, the Shogun World, and the War world.

Cool. I've been getting into old movies lately. Maybe I'll watch the original movies instead of forcing myself to put up with the newer ones.
>>
>>217440813
They are really bad. The first season of Westworld is the peak of the story and concept.
>>
>>217440851
Ah, I hoped the old movies that were used as reference would be good somehow.
