really wish by some miracle the TV show had been this exact cast and setting and effects, but for the whole show.Netflix series was okay, but it always felt low-budget and it felt way too kidsy compared to the movie.I do remember cringing at the movie for some reason when I first watched it, I was like 9 or 10 and for some reason I was just really embarrassed watching it with my parents.Although it was also pretty cringe to binge watch the whole TV series with my dad over the course of a week at the end of 2020 because we were told it was going away (in fact, it was the old movie being taken off of Netflix, I don't know why in fuck's cunt I thought Netflix would remove one of their own originals from their service, but I did).Anyway, movie was 8/10 (held back by re-organizing the plot as well as a couple silly added scenes as well as a bit of overacting on Carrey's part).Show was 6/10, held back by stupid VFD flashbacks, some of the songs were dumb (although the title theme, once you got used to it, was absolutely peak), some low-budget scenery made it seem like a college film project, and just the staging of it, particularly the lion pit scene, it just seemed really like it was a play or something, which is NOT the vibe I got from the books. I remember the 10th, 11th, and 12th books had this really somber feeling to them, especially with all the quotes from 1800s transcendental American authors, you just felt this sort of deep sadness reading it as a kid. I had hoped the show would capture that and be kino, but instead it made it seem kinda childish. I know ultimately it's a comedy, but it could have been more than that.

>>217441542>overacting on Carrey'sCarrey was perfect. Every single moment with him was hilarious and unforgettable.
