The kid had zero hardship in his life, he skipped class and homework and was a scared little bitch and then got rewarded for it, and the movie just ends. The dad's kid has been kidnapped as far as he knows but no mention of any of that. It was only slightly redeemed by reading the wiki and realizing it's only half the book's story and all the missing parts of the story were in the second half

Kids stuff in the 80s was weird. Our parent lets us watch all type of strange stuff.
