Those 150-200 pages where the group of Frodo, Sam, and Gollum have adventures in Two towers is unforgettable and the best of LOTR but they barely adapted it.
Return of the king movie took out those 150 pages after Sauron was defeated of characters saying goodbye to each other with zero conflict at all.
