Today's meds are so powerful that they destroy 99.9% of the virus in a patient's body. The problem is HIV hides in places the drugs can't reach, like deep in the bone marrow and in the brain tissue. So if you stop taking meds, the virus bounces back. But I feel like total eradication (a cure) might be achievable someday.
