I’m surprised they haven’t tried to remake the Truman show into a 3 season tv series.>season 1: awakening>season 2: exploration and discovery>season 3: escapeA lot of ideas and material and characters to cover outside of Truman himself. Interesting to see stuff like his love Lauren who seems to lead some anti Truman show protest group. The twisted dynamics of Truman’s best friend who is both genuinely his friend who has known him since childhood, while suffering the immense guilt of making a living lying to him. Truman’s mother the same but she seems less bothered. Truman's wife is much more of an exploitative narcissist.True stuff done to Truman would also be interesting, how far could they go? Have a doctor tell him he’s mentally ill and prescribe him placebos? Give him actual sedatives in his drinks to make him chill out?

Also every deleted scene or even actual extras from the movie have so much extra ideas in themThis deleted scene for examplehttps://youtu.be/EynCFAF8Q2Q?si=u2T9UlKIA0G9d2W7We get both Marlon’s disgust at Cristof openly planning to basically trick Truman into fathering a child on air, both because they’re doing this to move to a 2 channel system where you can follow Truman or his child, and because at this point Truman is psychologically broken and this is blatantly just another attempt to manipulate him into not trying to leave. In one of the extras there’s a fake documentary that shows a lot about Marlon that makes this even worse for him>he has worked on the show since his own childhood. As a very young child he didn’t even understand it was a tv show, since his mom just brought him and told him to try and befriend Truman. He happened to succeed, and his mom signed a contract to keep him there as a result>as he grew older and realised the true nature of it he was conflicted but he also genuinely has a friendship with Truman and is supporting his whole family >whenever he brought up getting a raise, Cristof would bring up possibly killing Marlon off instead>Marlon’s main advertising thing is beer. This means he MUST bring brand beers around all the time and drink them. As a result he became an alcoholic and can’t even abstain. He suggested drinking fake beers but they didn’t want to risk Truman noticing they weren’t legit so he’s forced to break sobriety constantly >by the end of the movie basically all the deleted scenes show he’s done with the deception and just wants Truman to escape
>>217445926>>217446001Yeah that'd be neatThree seasons though, that's a lot, too much imo. But I also hate modern television and how much filler it usually has.
The whole nature of Truman’s fictional world is interesting to me too. It’s like a mix of modernity with 1950’s idealised white picket fence families. The tv’a play I Love Lucy and other classic shows. They wouldn’t give him internet access or even let him know it exists. Nor modern smartphones. Just landlines internal to the dome set.Likewise, I doubt they’d let Truman do things too bad for him to minimise risk. So you’d never see people smoking for example. Cigarettes wouldn’t be available in trumanlandI had an idea where an early episode would feature some behind the scenes crew construction member accidentally leaving a pack of cigarettes behind. Truman finds them and is baffled. He’s seen cigarettes in tv shows, but this pack has text saying they will kill you, and a picture of blackened lungs. Why would anybody choose to do something that’s bad for you? The question he’d ponder and being up to his friends all day. They have all been informed by Cristof that Truman has found cigarettes, and they should subtly discourage smoking them. The radio news runs a story about illicit cigarette smugglers being arrested in town. Reminding citizens that cigarettes has been illegal for over 20 years now, and possession is punishable by 3 years in prison, a police car seems to shadow him for a few streets.Truman, panicking, burns them in his backyard barbecue. Cristof and the network are satisfied all is well.Episode ends at night, revealing Truman saved one of the cigarettes. He lights it on the stove. Coughs as he smokes it, looking up at the “stars” in his back yard. He smiles, even though he doesn’t like the taste or the feel.
>>217446074You might be right I reckon 3 seasons with 6-8 episodes each would work though
>>217446124Kino episode. This convinced me iI’d watch that shit lmao
>>217446001goddamn now i never want them to try to make this because they'd fuck it up
>>217446362This. Nobody should try things because they will fuck up
>>217446124Throw in some sort of tobacco industry pressure. Like they wouldn't mind not having cigarettes on the show, but having an explicit "smoking is bad" message is too much. Especially since the pack is a RL brand.Your ending is funny, because you could imagine the staff going into crisis mode, wondering if they should stop recording>inhales>coughs>literally says out loud "wow, that's terrible">everyone sighs in relief
>>217445926The original screenplay is so different from the final one the movie had they could include a lot of new ideas. Memorable one from the screenplay was having two actors pretend they were attacking a woman actor, to try and prompt Truman to intervene and give him a heroic moment, but he’s so depressed and uncaring about the world by then he doesn’t care or notice it’s happening. Leading to the actors looking confused and shrugging at the camera and Criston as Truman just casually leaves
>>217445926>Pitch TV show>Here is why we need 3 seasonsChernobyl didn't need 3 seasons. Taboo didn't need 3 seasons. The best TV shows ever produced have one single, concise season. TV shows with more seasons are for people who want to scroll on their phones while some bullshit creates noises in the background.
>>217446124>>217445926It could work as a show in modern age, he could have always suspected somewhat and had moments like the movie with his dad sneaking back in and a girl he liked disappearing, but also he could find an employee's lost smart phone when everything was locked to 50s tech
