Is this kino?
>>217446187It's alright, I imagine people who went to private boarding schools appreciate it the most
>>217446187Not really. In terms of legacy-to-quality proportion, it's the same as The Breakfast Club.
>>217446187it's a power fantasy for middle school teachers. it's worth a watch but only to see what makes those kinds of people tick
>>217446226Definitely better than the breakfast club. Maybe a little overrated from nostalgia but its a few steps above breakfast club
>>217446271From my perspective, any movie that jerks off that much over "muh literature" can't be good. t. humanities major in college
>>217446187I wept a bit when the Dr Wilson from House killed himself.
>>217446187one of those movies where endless parodies references have turned it into pastiche and diminished its impact
>le "parents are evil because they want their kid to be financially stable with a good job instead of pursing an art career that has a 99% failure rate" trope pretty sure this trope was invented by nepo babies whose parents were already in the industry
>>217446375>one of those movies where endless parodies references have turned it into pastiche and diminished its impactI hate this shit. watching Maltese Falcon was almost painful because it's been chewed up in pop culture so much
>>217446375>>217446642the older I get the more I hate reference-based parody. it's just so lazy to piggyback on a better work like that in a bid for recognition
>>217446187Boarding schools are gay. How could everyone not kill themselves from being stuck around faggot boys reading poetry all day?
>>217446187I too am in this movie.
>>217446187It seems like one of those films written for an extremely specific audience from a particular generation, kinda like Fast Times. I didn't care for it.
>>217446187it is kino but accidentally, because it shows the absurd narcissism and delusions of would-be artsy types who love to blow smoke up each other's ass all day but never actually do anything of value or learn anything concrete
>>217446534Yes, a subversive trend that continues through the decades.
>>2174465341% of artists succeed and tell everyone in a similar situation that their Dad's a retard.
>>217446187Everyone in this is a pussy. No many times will I ever be like "I would've done better" for a movie but I absolutely would've stood up for Robin Williams and the dead kid. High school me would have loved telling teachers and my parents to fuck off rather than keep quiet or lie. Massive pussys. I didn't go to a new England boarding school though
>>217446291>he thinks its about literaturewhat a retard
>>217448642He already said he was a humanities major.
>>217446917pitching or watching?
babby's first melodrama
>>217448526while i agree in spirit, you clearly dont understand the time and culture that it comes from. for one, physical punishment was a real thing. if you break step and go against the grain, you get forcibly put back. so what, you would mouth off, have a tantrum, and then take your beating like a little bitch before going back to life as usual? people wouldnt actually look up to you for it, they would brand you as scum. or, you could follow through and refuse your punishment too. but that would equate to expulsion and a blemish on the reputation of your family. its a whole WORLD of nepotism. the parent's and teacher's message is "if you dont act in line, then you're throwing that nepotism advantage out the window". if you accept that and go homeless to go work at mcdonalds, hey man, good for you. but thats why all of the kids got coerced into signing against the teacher, and they merely did the "captain" thing at the end. you either choose to throw away all of your support and future prospects just so you can "say you did the right thing" while you put the fries in the bag, or you recognize that the deck is stacked against you and you're just a kid getting chewed through the gears of the nepotism/politics machine. most people really like their families, and would prefer white collar to blue. you talk a big game from the outside, but you dont understand what the weight of the situation is actually like on the inside.
>>217448984I understand, I just still think they're pussys and highschool me would actually stand up for a cause. I never liked academia so these people opinions wouldn't matter. Shout out to the ending of scent of a woman. Dumb as hell but cathartic after watching this
>>217446187No; it's gay.
>>217448984Family regularly had children who ran off or did their own things instead of following the pipeline, it's not crazy to think someone wouldn't go along with this
>>217449144>highschool meyes, public highschool you. put the fries in the bag. >the ending of scent of a womanWILDLY different set of circumstances, and arguably charlie is still a bitch for not just naming the hoodlums.
>>217449239I went to a private Catholic school. I make 150k you lost >>217449239>charlie is still a bitch for not just naming the hoodlums. The movie specifically doesn't name which side is correct but Charlie chose not to eat on anyone and stuck to his guns even when he didn't have anyone on his side. He makes all these kids his bitch HOOAH
>>217449288>The movie specifically doesn't name which side is correctoh you need a movie to tell you which side is correct? kek, what a bitch.
>>217449144SNIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIFF
>>217449441>and arguably charlie is still a bitch for not just naming the hoodlumsYou're a Jewish Rat
>>217449650they lie to him, they clearly dont actually care about him, they set him up for failure. he clearly owes nothing to them, and stands directly to gain by naming them. additionally, they prove themselves as ignoble hoodlum pieces of shit, so theres nothing wrong with justice. reducing all of that to "rat" is probably the most nepo-jew nigger thing possible. quite literally the only argument against it is self preservation, because if he names them, then they know directly and implicitly that it was him and might face retaliation from them. even with that, trask could still say "another student came forward and gave me the names" without naming that student, but doing some sort of performative punishment for charlie because he "wasnt cooperative", which would allow him to save face with the students.
>>217446534you don't have to be a doctor to be financially stable. the father wanted something to brag about with his friends, "my son's in medical school, what's yours doing?".
>>217450050You'd still do the same in their position
>>217450087I would tell my son get a part in a different play and if it doesn't sell out, you're going back to school.
the scenes with the teacher were amazing. pure motivation fuel. the film is 5/5 before they get inside the cave. the side plot with the guy going for the jock's girl were alright. all the faggy shit with the wannabe actor student is boring and the pay off kind of ruins the rest of the film.
>>217446534nah, these were nuclear-family parents. they expected for the tables to turn and for their son to take care of them financially until they are lowered into a grave.
>>217446187if you like stupid schlock sure >PICK THE STAR WITH 6 POINTS GOY
>>217446187See this post. I want you to tear it up.
>>217450173The actor kid being that bold despite his father is the only admirable kid
>>217450260dunno, maybe, I didn't relate to it. they wanted to show the different applications to Keating's philosophy though the students, and that one didn't land with me, which is regrettable because that was the principle plotline of the film.
