Why does the tv/film industry lack such respect for other industries, even though they depend on them for content?
because people will watch no matter what.disrespecting the source material is also good for a lot of free publicity.
>>217446473>because people will watch no matter what.No they won't. It's exactly why TV and film are dead.
>>217446246Vast majority of people that have watched Fallout and HP have never touched the original source material. Original fans only make up a small percent of the general audience
They hate what they didn't make themselves. They hate not being able to have the creative freedom afforded to them by their own IPs but the good ones that actually make money are few and far inbetween all the asinine and boring shit they barf out.On top of that, you have to make room to include the things they have to have in EVERY fucking creative endeavour now, messaging, propaganda, DEI, tranny, mystery meat people of colour and every other creative stifling shit you can imagine that is mandate across entire swaths of the industry.
>>217446473>because people will watch no matter whatThat's what people have said about Star Wars for decades and the spin off TV shows on Disney+ proves that's not true.
>>217446473>because people will watch no matter what.Until they realize it's terrible and they stop watching.
Because artists crave to make OC, but anti art consoomers like you just want to see the same pleb things over and over
it’s a performance to generate online chatter. Because online chatter is the sole metric of “success” anyone has been using for over a decade. If they made the original IP they wanted to make, and it sucked, no one would care. But when they take things they didn’t make and smear their shit on them, online chatter is generated and that means success to… someone. The reality is when it comes to well established franchises, there are only two groups. Those who like it and those who don’t. No changes will bring anyone from the latter group, every change will alienate people in the former.
>>217446838>anti art consoomers like you just want to see the same pleb things over and overBullshit. Just because something is original doesn't mean it's good, so when they make shit-tier tv and film, people don't watch it because it's shit-tier. Original tv and film has to be GOOD, not just original.
>>217446546You learn from the originals' mistakes and successes. They've already been there, done that.
>>217446246I'm willing to bet money the halo script was originally sold as something other than halo, refused by everyone until it fell on paramount who historically hates the ips it adapts, and then forced into being halo.
>>217448419This feels like the norm with almost every adaptation they do in Hollywood.
>>217446246Because hubris. These hacks can't get their own projects greenlit, so they take established IPs and reshape them to fit their needs. It's kinda miserable, but hey, sometimes it works out like with The Shining and Starship Troopers.
>>217446546>Vast majorityFor fallout maybeBut the Harry Potter books were huge, movie only would have been 70% max
>>217446246Wasn't the whole point of Harry Potter TV that it was going to be a more faithful adaption than the movies were (raceending aside)
>>217446473It's pretty clear at this point too big to fail isn't true (unless you're pokémon) it just took a few years for people to catch on to patterns of everything being garbage
>>217446838If you wanna make OC slip in some slice of life bits in the credits
Video games are the punching bag of television And television is the punching bag of filmography Its why people make fun of emmys and grammys, there's no such thing as prestige television baring a few exceptions
>>217449375>a few yearsBreh, it's been going downhill since the early 2000's and trash movies are still raking in hundreds of millions of dollars.
>>217448419This is a classic move in Hollywood. >Many Saints of Newark
>>217446246Further proof that you really dont need a brain to make it in capitalist america
>>217449448>trash movies are still raking in hundreds of millions of dollars.Where besides Avatar? Even the movies that are good are flopping now because people expect everything to suck
If you're making an unnecessary adaptation to begin with because there is already a well-liked adaptation in recent memory, I don't see any reason why not to stray from the source material. I don't need to see the same shit with different actors every 20 years. The problem is that they are obviously not going to stray in interesting ways, they're going to stray in politically motivated ways.
>>217449375You just have to wait for nostalgia to take hold. The Star Wars prequels were panned on their release, but are now remembered fondly by elder zoomers and millenials. Pokemon Black and White were eviscerated on release, but are now the favorite games of the new generation of adult Pokemon fans.
>>217449531Star wars prequels are remembered fondly by the people who grew up on the supplementary material that redeemed them.
>>217449531>Pokemon Black and White were eviscerated on release, but are now the favorite games of the new generation of adult Pokemon fans.Black and White were only hated by people who already stopped playing the games. The release hype for them was so big it's literally the reason /vp/ was made here.
They think they're too good to be making some shitty video game adaptation even though they don't deserve a filmmaking job at all
>>217449486Flopping doesn't mean they're not raking in money from morons. Lots of "flops" net 100+ million at the box office.
>>217449531Anyone who old enough when they came out to be able to determine the quality of a movie does not remember them fondly.
>>217446573that's because of oversaturation thoughall of the disneywars movies were successful until solo which was one of the most mismanaged projects of all timeit took a long time and a lot of slop to cheapen the brand to the degree where it is now
>>217449531the grim thing is some young zoomies and alphies are already getting nostalgic for the sequels
