Everyone involved with X-Men was embarrassed by everything about super heroes, which is why they changed everything from the costume design to the relationships and hyper focused on the racism allegory instead of making the films typical capeshit where the hero has to learn how to punch the villain harder. Raimi's Spiderman was shameless fan service and true to the source material and was a brainless capeshit story for all films. For being a gay pedo Singer at least had enough maturity to be ashamed of the source material and turn it into something better (until it went full capeshit with 3).
