it was just kind of dull.
>>
it just wasn't very good. the first film wasn't much either, but Wrath of Khan was so fucking good that everything was gonna look rough after that. Even Voyage Home hasn't aged well.
>>
>>217454956
>Voyage Home
watched it last year, still thought it was great.
>>

Rude

We already had a light comedy episode with Star Trek IV. Shoehorning in a brother for Spock. Row Row Row Your Boat. Production values weren't up to snuff, not ILM.

It does have a couple of good things going for it though, "What does God need with a starship?" and the "I need my pain!" scene. Otherwise an awful outing.
>>
>>217454920
Scotty and Uhura fugged. It's canon.
>>
>>217455059
The correct answer. I'd rather watch the Lower Decks parody because it actually had a rock monster
>>
>Star Trek 5
FIRE EVERYONE!!!!!!!
>>
as bad as the movie is, it hasn't picked up any "well its actually kino if you really think about it" types like TMP has because V was directed by Shatner (and it shows)
>>217455118
they took a 55+ year old woman and paraded her around like she was 25, what were they thinking
>>
Comfiest Trek movie by far.
>>
>>217454920
its like a weird vanity project instead of a real movie

I never hated it. It just have a very TV movie feel to it.

my dude here
so many people misunderstand the motion picture

*has
But other than that it's a soulful flick and it makes you think, as well as laugh several times.

Row row row your boat....

I think the movies got worse with each one.

You think The Undiscovered Country is worse than The Final Frontier? Are you retarded?
>>

Unsatisfying maguffin.
Unsatisfying retcon.
Unsatisfying climax.
>>
>>217455059
>"What does God need with a starship?"
Good as in it's a meme, it's fucking dumb.
>>
>>217454920
They should have called it "The Sexual Frontier"
>>
>>217455678
I forgot about that one. It's not great, but it is better than V.
>>
>>217454956
This is such a non-trekkie answer. Wrath of Khan is just a submarine warfare movie but in space. Just watch Das Boot. Not saying it's bad, but saying the other movies are bad in comparison is retarded. The Motion Picture is fucking amazing, pure psycadellic last gasp of 60s/70s sci-fi psycadellia, incredible handmade SFX, cool concepts, character and theme interwoven masterfully into the story. Voyage Home is just fun fan service, which I'd normally hate but they'd earned it by then. I understand having Wrath of Khan as your favorite and honestly you are right about Final Frontier being weak comparitively, but the first movie is a masterpiece and I urge you to give it another chance.

TNG era movies are all ass though, no doubting that.
>>
>>217454928
correct about op, not about star trek
>>217454956
the motion picture is absolute kino
>>
>>217456094
>Just watch Das Boot
What a dismissive notion, that tells me you don't understand or haven't seen either Das Boot or Wrath of Khan.
>>
>>217454920
I liked all TOS movies except Generations.
>>
>>217456094
>>217456426
anon is correct, if you want a submarine movie to compare to wrath watch U-571.
>>
>>217457309
good thing generations isn't a tos movie then
>>
>>217454920
People are coming around to it. Real fans know that it’s the truest Star Trek movie there is.
>>
>>217457448
Oh fug I mistook the OP for the motion picture. I’m retarded
>>
>>217454920
Hairbrained plot, awful forced comedy, shitty retcon villain, cardboard secondary villains.
>>
>>217457476
it's ok tardanon, we forgive you for your trespasses.
>>
>>217454920
Standards were MUCH higher back then. It's still a great watch for trekkies
>>
>>217454956
Wrath of Khan is one of the greatest films ever made, let alone in the series or genre. It’s unbelievable.
>>
>>217457489
>Hairbrained plot,
yeah it is silly
>awful forced comedy,
honestly i don't remember any comedy bits outside of kirk and mccoy camping with spock
>shitty retcon villain,
eh, sybok is technically a retcon but he still works within the bounds of trek, not an unnecessary nonsensical character like michael burnham
>we did spock's sibling a second time!
fucking kill me
>cardboard secondary villains.
who are they besides either sybok's guard or the giant floating head or the prison guards? i genuinely remember only the beginning of this movie on the prison planet, the camping bit, sybok on the enterprise and then "what does god need with a starship?"

keep in mind, i actually like this movie and think it gets a much unfair rap but i barely remember it lol. it really is forgettable compared to the other five.
>>
The McCoy and his dad stuff still scares me, dunno if i could live with myself.
>>
>>217454920
Because it's a bad movie.
>>

Cheap sets and cheaper effects
Shatner can't direct
Cop out ending

With the exception of its one good scene (the 'share your pain' scene) it's piss

What kind of poser bullshit is this

Wrath of Khan has some of the best character writing of any Star Trek project ever, that's why people love it

TMP was short on character moments which is why people were lukewarm on it
>>
>>217457952
>Wrath of Khan has some of the best character writing of any Star Trek project ever, that's why people love it
outside of khan no lol
kirk's arc is total nonsense and a massive retcon of his tos personality
spock is... spock
the rest of the crew is irrelevant
plus the entire time kirk's son refers to starfleet as the military, which they aren't
>>
>>217457991
You idiot
>>
>>217454920
Even numbers good. Odd numbers bad.
That is the Star Trek way.
>>
>>217458027
call me what you want
can't call me wrong
it does do a decent job of continuing threads set up in tmp though, shame that storyline ends with voyage home
>>

> The Motion Picture is fucking amazing, pure psycadellic last gasp of 60s/70s sci-fi psycadellia, incredible handmade SFX, cool concepts,
It was “me too” after 2001. From the pacing to the overwrought plot and the excruciating ending. So just watch 2001.
>>
>>217454920
all Star Trek movies are ass
only the first one deserves being called a movie as far as I'm concerned and it's still mediocre

Its another "torment Chekov" episode...
>>
>>217457879
> Flimsy, uninteresting premise

It’s basically a TOS episode and would be an okay one if it were. Kirk defies God is a Shatnerian ego balloon worthy of Trek. It just didn’t have enough going to be a full length movie.
>>
>>217458102
>It just didn’t have enough going to be a full length movie.
that's why there's the B plot of Sybok
arguably a C plot with Kirk's camping escapades as well
>>
>>217454920
It's shit, and Star Trek is shit.
>>
Generations is the best trek film.
>>
>>217458102
Yeah there's stuff in there which could have worked. You can see that the script has good intentions. They were legally obliged to let Shatner direct but they should have at the very least had Nimoy keep an eye on him.

>>217455501
Shatner's only directing experience up until that point was theater and TV. TFF had a great and very experienced director of photography, but you'd never know watching the movie. Shatner had no idea what he was doing.
>>
>>217458253

>>
>>217455678
Undiscovered Country gets so much affirmative action just from saving ending the original crew movies on a total embarrassment
>>

Horatio Hornblower in space more than Das Boot
>>
>>217458102

>>
It’s shit
Although the scene of them singing at the campfire is kino
Other than that though it’s garbage
>>
>>217458317
I mean it's also a really bloody good whodunnit/ussr collapse allegory/comfy navy in space comic book action flick
