During the Brett kill sequence, there's this sort of golden chamber next to the landing gear bay. No other room in the film looks quite like it. The camera (Brett's POV) advances very slowly through the room, and into the landing gear bay, two totally separate worlds. And then the camera pans up very slowly to establish the space. Ridley knew they'd built a great set and he wanted to just take time showing it.

The "golden room" as I think of it (at least, it's lit to look like gold) is basically the same area with the disused tank-vehicle thing where Parker and Lambert very noisily collect coolant. The two rooms in general were inspired by wartime British tanks, munitions, planes, etc.

where is this

Its insane how a modest budget movie from the 70s is far better than all the high budget movies that came out after trying to expand the lore of that world

it's almost like the dollar was worth more 50 years ago and you could get more bang for your buck then
not to mention people actually gave a shit about quality

There's one shot in particular that I'm thinking of, and its the movement in and then slow pan up, all in one shot IIRC. At least during that shot, the "gold" effect is there.

You should be aware that the Brett kill is cut very differently between the two versions, especially around the point that I'm describing. I think the shot is in both cuts but it's been a while, but any decent quality blu-ray or DVD from the past 20 years will contain both cuts and you can readily compare them.

Something that's in 1979 theatrical but NOT in 2003 (((Director's Cut))) is a very long close-up shot of Harry Dean Stanton just being tired of life, letting the moisture drip on his hat, just mugging for the camera, almost like he's tired and knows it's all pointless and he's about to die. We spend basically one full minute of just looking at this guy. Actors LOVE getting extended, up-close face time like this on screen, and Harry was very happy and surprised when this long cut was left in the completed 1979 film. He personally thanked Ridley after he watched it for giving him such a good, long close-up. This shot was later excised from 2003.
