When did capeshit get bad?
>>217458286After End Game for Marvel and TDK for DC.
>>217458286>HOLY SHIT LE GOOD BEAT LE BAD GUYS FOR THE 6 GORILIONTH TIME!Capeshit was always bad and associated with losers who live with their mothers. That's why the first few successful capeshit films of the 90s/2000s had to be marketed to normies as "the matrix but not in a simulation" complete with black leather suits instead of bright spandex. This whole "expanded universe" abomination never should have existed. There's nothing new or entertaining that this genre has produced in decades. It's the equivalent of a million dollar toy commercial but kids don't even play with toys anymore. Fail.
>>217458286When it became a cinematic universe. No, just because some of the movies were good doesn't mean anything. I'd rather no cinematic universe, ever.
>>217458286Capeshit has always been mediocre as a rule. Only a few like Raimi Spiderman manage to be good films
>>217458427>>HOLY SHIT LE GOOD BEAT LE BAD GUYS FOR THE 6 GORILIONTH TIME!Underage or genuinely retarded? Spider-Man loses in Spider-Man 2. Doc Ock sacrifices himself. Spider-Man was a BITCH
the first Avengers movie
>>217458493>has to bring up a film made over 20 years ago by a horror director Thanks for proving the point, marveltoddler.
>>217458303Guardians of the Galaxy 3 was suprisingly goodSo was spiderboy now way homethe rest was shit indeed.
>>217458286Superman 3, when they tried to combine a Richard Pryor movie with Superman.
>>217458472The whole irony of the MCU is that it became too convoluted to the casual audience to bother following just like the comics they’re based on. Hence why comic books did stuff like Crisis on Infinite Earths in order to simplify things.
Did it deserve all the hate?
>>217458774it was a mess
>>217458774>Retcons uncle Ben's death>black goo just lands near Peter>messy use of HarryYea, it does.
>>217458286It was always badThese movies were rare exceptions
>>217458774The problem is Raimi wanted to continue making Spider-Man in the style of the 60s/70s comics he grew up with, but Sony execs wanted them to be more reflective of the edgy early 00s.
>>217458774The biggest issue that I remember everyone complaining about was the casting for Venom. Regardless I think Topher Grace would've been an amazing casting choice for Carnage instead
>>217458774It was obviously rushed and that pissed a lot of people off when they went to see it. Especially since that's where the films effectively ended after 4 was cancelled. There was a lot of blaming the Sony execs for shoehorning Venom into the story, but I think raimi could've worked around it better. There's a reason why it only lives on in memes.
>>217458286>You're telling me that the company that made THIS went on to make good superhero movies for a decade?
>>217459088Fond memories of this one. My parents liked it too which was rare for the movies I watched a lot.
>>217458286It's been bad multiple times. The best Fantastic Four movie is still "The Incredibles", for example. I can give a QRD of the ones I lived through. >SpawnThe effects are good until they get to Hell, then they are awful. Plot isn't really there, but it looks good most of the time. I would discover that this is a McFarlane speciality. First capeshit for me, BMTAS was later for me. We had the antenna you see, and we didn't have the Batman/Superman films on tape.>Fantastic 4/X3/HulkThis is when I noticed the drop, so 2003-2006 ish. This was followed by the Wolverine film, which was incredibly bad. I really thought cape movies were going to be like Uwe Boll vidya movies until they died out like pirate films. But then>Iron ManThis reignited the whole idea. Disney bought them the next year and you know the rest. There were a few duds between here and Endgame (Thor2, Iron Man3, Cap Marvel), but they were clearly building towards something. >Post EndgameAnd now it's over. At least, it should have been. It was a satisfying conclusion. But comics gonna comics, so we're going to drag out this run until everyone is sick and tired of it. I'm going to list off every movie since and you, OP, tell me when it gets bad. For me it was immediately.>Black WidowThis could have, should have, been the female James Bond movie. It should have been a Cold War era espionage film from the Soviet perspective. You can have Widow do what she's good at (slinking around and lying), have Bucky do his terminator shtick, and grabbed all those goofy Soviet guys (Crimson Dynamo, Omega Red, the one that's a bear) and it might've been a fun movie. This one isn't, nobody talks about this film anymore. They did defend it though. At this point I dipped.>Shang Chi>Eternals>Strange: Madness>Thor: Love n Thunder>Wakanda Forever>Quantumania>GoG3>Marvels>Deadpool n Wolverine>Cap:Brave New World>ThunderboltsAnd more later, maybe forever. I wouldn't know, I checked out.
>>217458764Basically Comics have always been willing to go "alright fuckit, you want Peter Parker to be a teenager again, you don't want broody 30 year old laid off Peter or some Miles Morales successor Spidey, okay here you go! Just get the Amazing Incredible Spiderman Throwback instead of The Invincible Spiderman, The Amazing Spiderman, Spiderman Legacy Tales or The Immortal Spiderman: Broken Webs, which some people consider 'woke' just because we let the author emphasize the sexual tension that existed between Peter and Harry Osbourne and we made Gwen Stacy Dominican.
>>217459140I agree with you except for the Black Widow part. How could they set it in the Cold War era?
>>217459179At this point they could have used time travel. I don't have an in universe reason outside of "they freeze her like they do Bucky but she escaped after the union fell, but before Hydra snatched all the Soviet super soldiers", my real reason is that it would've been more interesting than what we got. They could have previewed Red Guardian there.I'm accustomed to the comics where none of these people age though.
>>217458537I didn't read your entire post. I just read the green text
>>217459140GoG3 is great though, worth a watchThunderbolts and dr strange x wanda are okaythe rest is barely worthy of second screen material
>>217458774At the time, yes. In retrospect it’s genuinely better than most MCU movies
>>217459140The Incredibles is better than any superhero movie except maybe spider man 2
>>217458286After Endgame for normies. After Days of Future Past for real ones.
>>217458774The later releases of lower level capeshit and the Star Wars prequel style memeing retroactively saved this movie. I'm one of the biggest Raimi Spider-Man simps and even I hated it back then. Cramming three villains into one film I think did it for me because it left no room for anything else. Still, I think it's aged well
